Ryan on 3/15 asked a great question as I was seeking the same info as to when the different "Contains Lead" were used. If I might add a question to that discussion. Were the early taller 7x9" porcelain Lead Signs screwed on to the skin or riveted; brass or steel? I have not found an original pump or a picture that I can tell how the sign was mounted. Thanks for the information.

Most of the larger CL sign on Electric pumps I have seen used screws to hold them on...Just like the smaller CL signs.
Looking for Keystone,Pure,Sinclair,Texaco,Sterling and Gulf...Thanks, Brian

I've never seen any that had anything other than screws holding them on.

I've never seen rivets, just rusty old screws, flathead.

I don't know what they're called but I've seen these with a round head (no slot) and you hammer them in one time. Like a tiny drill bit on the bolt.

I messed up, these are for the ID tags (screws from above), not the contains lead signs.
Sorry, I think the contain lead signs were just 6/32s ?

I remember DB gave date that the signage was mandated by law. But I didn't bang that,to much to remember already. Being pumps where already in place,and the signage added, it makes sense that screws were the way to go.

I've only seen screws used with the exception of some Gulf pumps using a spring clip.

The use of screws would make sense if the pumps were already in place. Plus this would explain why there is no standard location, so it seems, where the CL are located. Good information.
