We had gas here in Nebraska for 25.9 in the early 60s when I started to drive. Occasionally they would have "gas wars" and price went down to 18.9 for just an afternoon or so. Of course we had a refinery here at that time which might have helped keep our price down.
My Dad said during the mid to late 30s gas in town was 18 cents but bulk delivery to the farm was half price or 9 cents. Now they tack on at least a nickel a gallon.

I have vivid memories when I was about 5 years old (1966) of my dad driving all over town to find gas at 29.9 because he refused to pay over 30c a gallon.

Well, I guess here in Virginia , I can remember 18.9. When I got a legit permit , it ran 20.9 for some East Coast self service regular . Re claimed oil in a jar was .20c a quart . Ed Shaver

I remember gas at 12.9 many times during the late 40's and early 50's with the gas wars. Great to go cruisin on .25

It was so nice in the 50's when I could stop in and tell the attendant to give me a dollar's Worth!

I remember 18.9 during a price war in the early 1960s. My older brother was in college riding a Cushman scooter at the time. He found a 55 gallon barrel, borrowed a truck and trailer to fill the barrel with gas. He put it behind his fraternity house and thought he was set for the year. Somebody spotted it and turned it in as a safety code violation. He had to get rid of it immediately, selling and even giving it all away before a deadline. frown

When I got my license in 1992, gas was generally .97 per gallon and the cheap oil to keep my '82 Cutlass Supreme topped off was around $1.19 a quart if I remember correctly. Sometimes gas went down to about .89 per gallon when it was super cheap. Hard to believe my $20 a week gas allowance used to buy a full tank and a few .59 cent cheeseburgers at McD's with the left over money, lol! smile

Bought my first truck in 1995 and was filling up in Rock Springs Wyoming for
. 75 a gallon. Hard to believe that was nearly 20 years ago!
I never paid too much attention to prices until I got my license in 1976 at age sixteen. My parents taught me to be responsible in saying that if I wanted my driving freedom it would come with a cost....gasoline! If I was on "E" I could throw $5 in the tank and it was almost full. So i'm gonna say gas was about 53.9¢ around that time post the 1973-74 spike in gas prices from around 39¢ a gallon.

I do remember in 1999 14 short years ago I could fill up my little Honda CRX for less than $10 with the price being 99.9¢ a gallon.

Prices here have surged about 25¢ in the last 3 weeks. Avg $3.85 eek

How about inserting a dollar bill into a Tokiem manufactured pump looking device that accepted quarters and dollar bills and getting OVER four dollars worth of Premium ? Yep , East Coast gasoline stations here in Richmond Virginia . As Michael Savage has said , "The Chrome was thick an the women were straight "............... Ed Shaver

I can remember in the Mid 1970's the price hikes that took gas up to 50¢ a gallon. Was a big problem for many dealers since pumps weren't designed to go above 49.9¢.

24.9 around here due to a gas war. The year was 1972.

I remember between 29.9 & 31.9 at my father's station. I'm sure I pumped gas cheaper than that, but don't remember. I believe of all the gas I pumped, very few 20's were handed to me. What happened to the old days. Havoline 10W40 was the best oil we sold, and I'm thinking .75/1.00 Qt. ?

I had a blast growing up in that station with my 5 older brothers.
