I purchased this pump in February after following up on a online ad. It was only a half hour drive from my house to a farm in Schuler, Alberta. The farmers father had bought the pump 30 years ago and had it stored in his shop. Unfortunately he had passed away before he got around to restoring it. I made a deal and promised to share pictures of the completed pump when it was finished. Here are a few pictures of the initial tear down and the glass bead abrasive blast on the frame and panels. One door was very dented and warped and would end up requiring more time than I would have like with a hammer and dolly.

Here are a few pictures of the dented door and the prep work. Eventually I got it to stand on its own after working the metal, used body filler to smooth it out and used a epoxy primer on the doors.

I enjoy seeing the results of the restoration process and can only imagine the amount of hours that goes into it. Well done!

Well you've turned the corner and are headed for the home stretch. Nice job.

Thanks for the feedback, I restored this one during the winter months so I’ve got a few more pictures to follow. I used agloss white urethane top coat on the doors and powder coated the frame and base gloss white. I used aircraft paint stripper on the aluminium shroud for the veeder root to remove the red paint that was previously on it.

I powder coated the side panels and cap with a dark blue I had matched to the decals. A friend helped me out with the electrical. Then it was time for assembly.

I had the door glass and ad glass installed at a local glass shop. The ad glass has to be cut down a bit and they did a excellent job with the cut and install. I applied the decals, I had wanted to put porcelain reproduction North Star signs on the door but unfortunately I couldn’t find any. Here is the finished pump. I had started the project on February 3rd and completed it on March 12th.

Thank you! I’ll put a similar post together once I’m finished working on the two Gilbarco 96’s I recently picked up.

Nice Job. You worked some magic on those doors. Very tedious work. Looks Great.

Beautiful job with the 996!
Old thread but I was hoping to pick your brain a bit as I am stuck on my 996C. How did you get the hose off? My hose is stuck on both the nozzle and pump ends. The seals are done and have jammed up the threads.
Did you have an easy time removing any of the excess gas in the pump?
