Just talked to Rob, Kyle Moore pre bought the American, 576 & other pumps on Nicky Fox's trailer.
Great Pics,Jim,Thanks!
Lot Of Good Stuff This Year!
Robert
Great pictures, thanks, keep them coming. How much for the correct measure pump? Any 42" sign rings?
If the porcelain shell Thermo is still available? Can anyone give me some contact info?
Thanks Jim for posting pics
Anybody know who had the Pontiac Neon's - Goodwill used Cars
Also - the 1922 autmobile blue book sign - shaped liek a badge.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Great pics some nice stuff!!
Great pics Jim, hope you go home with the Buick bumping/painting sign.
Thanks for the pics, Jim. I hope to make this show next year.
Tony
Thanks for the pics, very nice selection.
anyone know who has the workstation for sale on 2nd page??
Thanks, Rob
Great pics Jim, hope you go home with the Buick bumping/painting sign.
I wish I could, Rick. It is a little out of my budget. Love it though.
Thanks very much for all the great Pictures wish I could of gone.
Thanks for the pictures Jim.
Who had the North Star sign ?
What size is it ?
Shell thermometer bought by Dale Stephens. Pontiac neon signs sold. Howard Claiborne had North Star sign-selling for friend. Don't know if he sold. He left yesterday.Pat.
Thanks for the pics Jim, post them if you got them.
Looking to contact the seller who had the three air meters and Firestone sign in the last photo on page two. Any help would be appreciated. He has some other items in the background I am interested in as well. Thanks.
Thanks for the pictures Jim.
Who had the North Star sign ?
What size is it ?
It was about a four footer and I believe Dan Matthews bought it.
The three air meters were a friend of John Mancino (gasstuff) most of the signs were Johns.
What was the price of the Duplex in the first set of pictures on the trailer? The round Packard signs, anyone know the prices?
It always looks great from the pictures.
All of the good pumps there (including the duplex) were presold.
Thank you for posting pics.

...hah, and I was just commenting to a friend that it looked like a good show for pumps!
It always looks great from the pictures.
Iowa Gas ALWAYS looks better in Pictures cause ya can't feel the Heat/Humidity!
I'm thinking it's Looking better every year.
REALLY FEEL it would be bigger & last longer IF it were moved to COOLER Weather.
It was a good show for pumps. We brought over 30 gas pumps and sold all but 5. Only 1 was presold. Thank you to everyone who bought pumps from my Dad, Brother and myself. See you next year.

I didn't think the heat was at all bad Dick, and very, very sustainable.Nothing like the 100 degree heat index days we went through in the beginning of July.
I'm 50,grew up in Chicagoland all my life, and it was nothing different then anything else I've encountered here around the asphalt jungle.
Wear a T-shirt,shorts and a hat,and you'll be fine.
There was ample shade & water everywhere.Even the air conditioned Holiday Inn is never more then 10 steps away.
Nothing to complain about at all weather wise.
Thanks for taking the time to post these great photographs!

...and a LOT closer to North Carolina...
It wouldn't be IOWA gas if it were anywhere else. Lol

Same weather if you stay home or go to Iowa! For us on the West Coast we are use to a Drier Heat W/O High Humidity or as in the PNW High Humidity W/O the Heat.
I know about the AC inside the Hotel [HVAC Mick had the only room W/O a working AC!], but the stuff I'm interested in is Outside!
ME in SHORTS???
They'd have me arrested for Indecent Exposure & I would look like a Broiled Lobster after a half hr in sun!
Had a great time. It was tough to see all the presold items in the back of pickup trucks and trailers but I would say that overall the quality of items at this show were above any in recent memory.
Crazy that there were quite a few vendors already set up Monday PM. When I arrived on Tuesday (show starts Wednesday)I would say 60% of vendors were setup. If we keep going at this rate it will start on the weekend.
I liked the mobil bench/lubesters!

maybe that is the answer - if we move it up another couple days then we'll be back to the weekend where it makes sense for most of the dealers/collectors/AND most importantly BUYERS! Also, why would you want to have your auction on Friday when most of your online bidders and many who might make the drive are stuck at work?
Most working stiff's get paid vacations, plan ahead.
& the ones that own a business, can give up a few golf game days to attend.
Phil decided to spend his vacation in Hawaii instead of Iowa!
I am going to Iowa next year. I like Motel 6 to!
Local foot traffic is non-existent. No outlet to sell less expensive items. It is a pain to take a week of vacation for one show. 25% or more of the vendors did not even set-up Thursday.
With all of its flaws, Iowa Gas is still the "World Series" of our hobby.
As usual, we had a great time took home some great pieces and sold some stuff
So it's settled! Iowa next year goes from Saturday till Friday! Even more days of fun!
We got there at 8:30 Wednesday morning and had to park about 3 blocks away. In the 4 years I have been there we have never had to park that far away. I thought Wednesday morning there was way more foot traffic then in the previous years that I have been there. Still a great show, I am sure there would always be people complaining about the days it's held no matter what days it was held on.
Can't wait till next year!!!!!!!

And we show upon the Monday before?

I was really surprised by the variety of items for sale in the hotel rooms on Tue. & Wed evening.
Kevin Frith told me to check it out before I left, and boy did I.
4 floors full of nearly everything that was for sale outside, and more. The room to room sellers alone can easily surpass many Oil & Gas shows around the country.
I spent more money inside than I did outside.

Jason
I got there @ 9AM that same day,and parked in the AirPort parking lot across the street all day for $5.(THANKS JIM POTTS)..Only a $1 an hour if less the 4 hours.
It's at least $35 + around here near Chicago.
That lot was great!..and there were hundreds of spaces left in there to park, and it was only 50 yards from the first vendor.
Easy access to carry everything I bought, back to the truck & less than 5 minutes away.
I couldn't believe how close, convenient, inexpensive & easy this parking was.I can't park that close or easily @ Home Depot.
I know where I'm parking again next year..
...nice find, but I'd be more concerned that the legs matched...there are two different styles of Pegasus, one with a little more detail in the legs...one has a line that continues into the main section...it's a minor thing, but there is a difference...
That battery service sign is a big want for me. Who had and how much, is it still for sale?
Yep they match! I looked up my old post in the parking lot on my iPhone.was pretty sure on color, and one of the first things I did when I got home was run up to Stevens room and check. Bingo!. Thanks to Chad(DCPate)
That battery service sign is a big want for me. Who had and how much, is it still for sale?
Craig, Eric and Dave from Indiana? Big time sign dealers, they set up at B-J, wouldn't surprise me one bit if that sign was now priced at 25 grand.
Dave Steinberg from Richmond Illinois, and Eric Yeley from Indiana.

If anybody knows this guy,I need to find him!
And finally got to meet " notchcad". Clinton Newell
That guy and gal in the picture two posts ago make a cute couple!
Watch out for that guy in the background to the left, right under that light. He looks kinda shifty.
Jim,it was the guy with the hat we had to watch! Lmao!
Yeah I want that Hat LOL
Joey
I understand vacation- what I don't understand is why they insist on having the show in the middle of the week? And the auction on a weekday??
They did that so people had the weekend to get home.
Who is the guy with the tattoo arms? is that Clinton?
Yep,thats Clinton ! Proud to know him!
yes, fun guy to talk to and had good dealings with him also.

Got that right. He has got quite a few pumps off me in the past few months. He still not getting the Erie he wants LOL. Glad to meet some of you on my one day to Iowa. Sorry if I missed you maybe next year
For parking issues in the future, the Airport Long Term Parking lot to South of Holiday Inn charges $5 per DAY & only accepts Credit/Debt Cards for charges.
Economy 1 lot #7 [green triangle area left side of screen]
http://dsmairport.com/parking/general-parking-map
That's the lot I was in....They charge $1 an hour,up until you hit 4 hours.Then after 4 hours,it becomes $5 max.
Love the credit/debit card idea..in Chicago you pay cash or you don't get your car back....LOL.
I have question about the Sinclair plate about 1/2 way down page 5. It has shiny silver gromment's & plates with those type alway's seem to get called out as fakes. Same as the Mobil plate that was just discussed on here. To me the Mobil plate looked very good, but everyone questioned the gromment's. So is the Sinclair real? Just trying to learn.
Cliff
Sinclair Oils 6" is beyond correct. I saw the most knowledgeable of Sinclair collectors buy one as 4 were available. Used this logo into the 50's with the exploration\pipeline division. Legite find and bought by very legit collectors.

Anderton, Bettin, Greg, Maxwell, Patton, Von Holten all thought they looked legit. (and if you don't know any of those names, you should do some research)
Never been to the show after pictures and talk will be there next year early. great pictures thank you. I really hope all the small and large business owners that work hard in our hobby that were selling their pumps signs globes displays at the show did some very good $$$$ looks like with all the work, money and time, that went into it every vendor there easily deserved a good pay day. sounds like a lot of guys did well and that is great to hear.
Legit signs. Not something a Craigslist picker sees everyday so quick to call a fake. I think bustermonty and tomzcollectibles know their stuff. Nice find guys!
Anybody ck the price on the Sinclair Pennant Globe? Just Curious.
Clinton and I checked the Pennant globe out. If I remember right it was $1100.
Nice stuff, thanks for posting!!!
I saw three Pennant globes there, two were $1050. The one in the picture belonged to Lonnie Hopp and was priced higher. It was NOS and the box behind it in the picture is the original shipping box. It had the name of the place it was shipped to back in the day on it. I do not know if it sold.
Thanks! Trying to get handle on todays prices compared to Scotts and Waynes globe books. This helps me alot!
I bought the one with the flag touching the pole. I didn't have that one!!
does anyone have the contact info for alf and ralf that were set up next to one another there? thanks scott
Who had the Case and John Deere signs?
We just got home this afternoon, 4580 miles round trip. I think the show was great with lot's of everything for everyone. I was lucky to pick up some nice pieces for my collection and got to talk to so many great collectors. Great show, great time and can't wait for next year
Ray
Ray- you must have got lost on purpose to travel some of those back roads (4580 miles round trip) looking for more treasures
Happy to hear the trip was a Safe & Enjoyable one.
Tom and Jim, thanks for sharing the pics. Looked like a good show.
Does anyone know who was selling the 1 piece "gasoline", "filtered gasoline", and "guarantee measure" glass globes. Looked like the person had some good prices on them. Wondering if they got snatched up by someone? Greg
Oslosteve. He is a member on here.
Greg--Steve has started a business doing reproduction one piece gas globes. He has many different designs available and could probably be contracted to produce a "custom" piece also. He does the work himself in a nice area he built into his garage. Globes are high quality glass and his work is very nice.
Thanks Ryan and Kevin for the info on the glass globes. I thought they were originals. They look very good for reproductions. Steve does a great job with his globes, but I only like to spend my hard earned cash (what little I have) for the real McCoy. Greg
Just made it back to CA. yesterday. Ray has me beat in driving mileage. I only drove about 1,850 miles! It was a great show and even though you see a lot of pumps in the photos you might want to know that they sold very fast pre sale or not. I have been attending this show for 11 years and have never seen so many pumps with sold tags before the show even started. It did not matter if they were 50s pumps or the earlier stuff (they sold)!! I bought the Wayne 866 atlantic pump and the Rapid Dayton 1420 cash recorder, and decided to resell them due to the great interest and demand at this show. I ended up taking home a Sharmeter cash recorder not seen in the photos for some reason, and the green Wayne 40 that you see in the photo. The best part of this show is mingling with all the other petro people that enjoy the same crazy stuff!
Good seeing alot of you guys there!
Rob
Thanks for the plug Kevin. But,this is far from a business, just something i wanted to try. I don't want to do this every day. It takes several hours to do one globe, pretty labor intense to lay out the mask and get it ready to go.I am surprised how many have sold to pump resto people and a couple of high end collectors for early pre-vis pumps just because the 12" are so hard to find. Same for the generic globes that came on the pumps, FILTERED GASOLINE, GUARANTEED MEASURE etc. These are the ones i would like to make or custom logos.
Does anyone know the guys name that had and sold the 6' Champlin sign? Thanks, John.
Anyone have contact info on the owner of the Barsndall sign? Thanks. ARA.
Can Anybody tell me who had the Duplex for sale ..LOOKING FOR ONE !!! THX TOM

It was pre sold. There were no good pumps there for sale this year, they were all presold.
Ryan is right on all the good stuff was pre-sold. If I ever decide to sell my good pumps I am going to load up and just drive in and sit back and watch the feeding frenzy. The show was more fun in the past when pre sales were kept to a min.
Rob
You do that Rob and you WON"T be sitting back watching. You will be SLAMMED!
I was really disappointed in the lack of "good pumps". I went to Iowa with a substantial amount of money looking to buy something neat. Needless to say, I came home with alot of money. Strange.
My girlfriend and I went looking for a pump for are new house and taught we would come home with one even arranged a ride back for it. But everyone that we liked was sold she tried hard to get one but didn't she and I both were disappointed. We had a lot of offers to have them built for us.
Next year there will be a sea of pumps, for everyone will be bringing all the stuff now after hearing about the shortage. Hopefully there will be some rare ones there.
...and they will start arriving on Sunday.
