Hi guys,
Not familiar with this brand/sign.
The patina looks good, it’s got layers when running finger across sign.
36” wide x 20” tall
Double sided, same graphics on both sides, marking at bottom only on one side.

Survey says?
Also do I need to repost in other forum category on value?

Any help is appreciated. Have a short hold/option on this sign until Sat morning.

Seems like a lot of edge damage, yet the porcelain orange is super bright/shiny.
Conflicting so looking for some thoughts here.

Does seem like extra time/expense for a fantasy sign maker to porcelain coat both sides/graphics equally.

I don't think the guys were saying it looks like a fantasy sign, smokey1. If a repro, it's evident the sign was fashioned after a real United Motors sign design. The original sign would have been two-sided, so the repro sign maker would logically have produced a two-sided reproduction. I personally owned a reproduction of this United Motors sign about fifteen years ago. It was porcelain and two-sided. Very nicely done as I recall. I'm not saying the sign you're looking at is a reproduction. I'm merely trying to address your "fantasy" comment, and indicate what I've owned in the past.

Like the guys said, the asking price in the antique mall may shed some additional light on your original question. Good luck. John

Thank you John for the detail.
Find it odd a sign with rich glossy layer porcelain on both sides, yet clearly excessive grinding on outer edges.
Sure could someone have knocked off rust and butchered it with a wire wheel brush but seems excessive.

If it was a $100 heavy steel sexy knock-off sign, that is one thing.
High dollar it needs to be as absolutely original, no reservations.
This one did not seem right and with forum assistance passed on it.

Appreciate the feedback and forum knowledge.
Really helpful.

Your logic for deciding to pass on this one seems very well founded, smokey1. The old "when in doubt" adage is still very helpful, when it comes to looking at many items in our wonderful gas/oil hobby. Best regards, John

What was the sign priced at? What indicates the sign is phony?

Looked kind of decent to me but i am kind of inexperienced.
