Is there a clear way to identify and date older Texaco signs? Attached are photos of the 42” I am looking at. It is double sided.

In researching these I have seen different words on the signs (I.E. The Texas Oil Company USA vs just The Texas Oil Company. Some have different hole positions and some appear dated at the bottom while others are not. I haven’t been able to get a feel for what is original and what is a reproduction. If anyone can help school me, please do!!

The date stamp on my 42" was very faint (normal Texaco revision code for the period, 3- two digit year). If I recall correctly, it was near 6 o'clock on the sign right above the black border.

I could be wrong, but I've never seen anyone fake this sign in 42". They were made double and single-sided and there is a fair amount of variation between them. That being said, the one pictured is original.

Yep, mine is stamped "3-36" at the 6 o'clock position.
