I’m restoring an M&S 80 and had two questions maybe someone can answer. One is it looks like many people are attaching an air mattress blowup motor to the main fuel line to spin the paddle wheels in the sight glass. Can anyone tell me what one they used and was it quiet enough ? Thanks

Secondly, I’m going to mount a motor to spin the VR49 computer and would like to know by part # what motor people are having success. I know about the off set on the drive and figured out how to mount it but I wanted to know the tried and true motor that gives the correct RPM and can hang in the. Thanks much

Grainger sells several suitable Dayton gearmotors in the 33-50rpm range. I developed a mounting plate to attach a motor to the bottom of a VR. It's been copied but mine is the original. LOL

Thanks very much. I would like to see your original mounting if you care to share. I have no shame when it comes to cloning. :-)

This is one we have used many times on the MS 80. Shows the attachment in which we made and yes got the reduction from above mention.

Craig, Thanks for the picture. Thats a beautiful pump !! That red came out nice and I like the silver chassis. Mine will be a Sunoco (ex-American Oil) because I owned a Sunoco Station way back.when. I found a Dayton 25 RPM motor 52JD92 that sounds like it will do the trick and just have to fabricate a coupler. I was wondering if you hooked an air mattress pump to your gas line to make the paddle wheels spin? My concern was the noise it might make. Your thoughts ? Thanks Tim

Kevin Frith on here sells a little kit with all the workings to turn your meter.

The design of the MS 80 door latches won't allow mounting of the motor plate included in the kit. Save your money.

Thanks for the input. I ordered the motor and a generic coupler with 5/16 ID . Motor $100 and coupler $5. I like the approach made by Morgan and Craig. Simple and clean. I have the nasty unrestored computer in there now mocking it all up. I am proceeding with a mattress air pump to spin the paddle wheels, but I believe its going to be too noisy. If anyone has gone down that road, any input would be appreciated...... Thanks Tim
