Saw this 4’ sign today in a local antique mall. One sided porcelain. Something about it just doesn’t look right. How do I know if it’s authentic? Looks like someone ground off patches on the front. Opinions?

It’s kind of like the Supreme Court’s ruling on what constitutes porn... “I know it when I see it”. It’s just all off. The back doesn’t looks right, the colors are off. The spacing between the letters and top of the sign is wrong. The gouges look homemade. Plus this is a common India knock off...and as Randy said, all the other signs look to be fake as well. Yes, I’m 100% sure it’s not old and original.

Ditto on Petropumps comments! 100% phony.

Took a grinder to it ............. go back to the hammer.

The sign is a fake. This version only was made in 30" and is double sided. The size and white background is a dead give-away.

Thanks all. Going to make a comment to the antique mall owner. I don’t have a problem with the person selling these signs but they should be labeled as not old. He has probably 5-6 for sale.

Tried doing that once. Guy was selling some signs with ridiculous prices but only said came off an old barn. When I explained that they weren't original he basically said "I'm not saying they are. I'm just selling them at these prices like everything else here i'm selling so take it or leave it." He had a point but I still walked away shaking my head.

Let us know what he says when you advise him they are fake? And if he reduces the prices.

It's a large antique mall so the person I talk to at the desk won't be the seller. I'll let everyone know what they say. I can't imagine it will change anything but I'm going to say something anyway.

I had a jewish friend (who was an antique dealer) in Denver and he said the antique business is "full" of deceit and deception and greed. They justify the dishonesty in many ways!

Went in today and talked to the mall sales person. Her response was we don’t make any representation about authenticity of the products our vendors sell. And I guess I can understand that. I just feel like most people are, going to think they are buying the real deal. Wish I could put up a sign - NOT REAL!
