Started to work on Erie pump and trying to open doors. The screws are very bad, spraying with wd40 and tried heat on one. The heads of screws not the greatest. Can someone tell me or post a picture of a door open. My question is, is there just screws that come right out or is there a hook and latch system in place? Also if my last resort is to drill is the panel indented where the screw sits?

Those large heads take the biggest screwdriver you have.

Or you can use a ground down edge on a fender washer held with a pair of lock jaw pliers.

They are attached to arms that swivel around and latch to the body.

They only move one way to unlatch - and in reverse to latch.

They can be horrible to get loose.

Try clamping a long wood working clamp across the side of the body next to a head.

This can relieve some of the pressure and allow you to turn the unit.

If you think these are tough - wait until you try and remove the sight glass retaining rings . . .

Later . . .

Jim

P. S. - feel free to call if you need more help.

Hey Jim, if it is a latching system would you know if clockwise or counter clockwise to unlatch? The screw I applied heat to would only turn very little hence the latching? Along with minimal movement it seemed to stop that's what made me believe the screw didn't just unscrew from the door. So does the latch or hook stay attached to door? if this is the case?

Thanks Joe.

Might give you a call tomorrow.

Joe

Sorry, the latches will go either direction.

Here are photos of one of my disassembled 71's showing the swing arm inside the door edge and the corresponding latch area in the side panel.
