Hello All,

I acquired a Mobil Station sign post 25+ years ago. I took it down from a closed station in Yakima, WA. This is the steel post only. I don't have the MOBIL sign that mounts at the top like the one in the attached picture. It's in perfect rust free shape. It is a unique shape that starts as a square at the base and then turns into a chisel shape. I believe it's 14ft or 16ft tall. Does anyone know what year they came out? I think the late 1950's. I have never seen another one. I will be measuring it and posting pics soon, however I have attached a pic that I found of one online. Once I find out more info on it I may consider letting go of it. Thanks, Andrew

Known as the "flat shield" Mobil logo, introduced in 1955. I believe it would have taken years before all of the 5 point shields would be replaced with this logo due to the sheer number of Mobil stations across the US.

Darin,

Thanks so much! I have been hunting for information on it for years. I wish I had the complete sign. I will post pics soon of mine. Thanks, Andrew

Lee,
What a beautiful sign!! Thanks for showing it me. No need to climb a ladder to find the date. I appreciate your input. Andrew

Back around 1993 I brought this sign to a few shows, no body wanted it. I think I was asking about $350 for the complete sign. Right before the next Iowa Gas I took the sign apart, threw away the frame and sold each side for $250.00 each. They were the good old days.

Yes Jack, My wife and I had taken a trip to Hot Springs,Ar. to see some friends. We were pulling a 24 travel trailer. They took us out in the country to an antique store whom they knew the owner. I just happen to mention signs and he said he had some in the rafters of his barn.We went out there and being much younger I climbed up there and eased them down. There was the Mobil, a Lion,Gulf Dealer, plain Gulf, Texaco, Flying A and a King Edward.I think we paid $400 for all of them. I still can not remember how we got them in the camper.Probably more than 20 yrs. ago. At the time I thought we paid a fair price. Right, the good old days. Lee

The good ole days were when you went around back of the station and the signs were laying in the weeds & were free...
