I must admit that something similar happened to me; while I was at Ft. Bragg. It wasn't a Service Station plate glass window I went through; but instead an Auto Parts Store.
I had just come back to the States from an Overseas TDY and my Wife informed me that the brakes didn't seem too be right. I decided to take the car the couple of blocks over to the Service Center at the Auto Parts Store and then would catch a ride to my Unit and catch a ride back to pick up the car after the brakes were done....
This was over 40 years ago and I can still feel the brake pedal go to the floor; the agonizing "slow motion" feeling of the car rolling up the slight incline into the window... Marveling at the time; how much the glass seemed to bend before exploding as the front end of the car stopped a couple feet into the building... It of course made the local Paper there in Fayetteville and I was the brunt of jokes for months!
Bought a few things from someone long ago out of state. Turned out, they used to own a local Sunoco Gas station right here a few towns over from me as a kid. They included these items along as a keepsake.
