Gov. needs to start at the top, get rid of career Politicians [term limits, 8yrs max.]. Tax everyone at the same percentage, NO EXCEPTIONS, NO LOOP HOLES [all the way down to & including Welfare]. IF you sell something, pay Tax. I wish I had to/could afford to give the Gov. $1,000 a day in taxes [just think what I'd be making per minute]!

Hi again, Gang. Interesting general discussion thus far. How about some more thoughts focusing on the original two opinion questions I threw out? They relate to the possibility of more, self-run auctions being used on Old Gas to vend "For Sale" items:
FIRST, do you think this push to tax eBay net sales proceeds will drive more and new sellers to sites like Old Gas?
SECOND, if you think we'll be seeing more and new sellers on Old Gas because of these changes, how do you feel about the liklihood of more auction-style "for sale" listings here (assuming these sellers would choose to use that method because of their eBay experience)?

For the record, it's AND not OR... 200 item AND 20K sales.
If you utilize Paypal(not simply eBay) or any other online payment method and your account sales equal this amount for any ONE service you will receive the 1099K.
No hoopla, just plain facts.

FIRST, NO, the $20,000 AND 200 item limit is not going to make a difference for the average ebay seller. Guys that are over that are there because they DON'T sell anyplace but ebay to unsuspecting and uneducated buyers. They could not survive selling to knowledge.

Very interesting point, KZ1000. I hadn't looked at the unfolding situation at PayPal (eBay) from that perspective. John

I agree with KZ,I would hate to see all the junk land here.Someone made menton of honest sellers. Ebay is full of crooks, selling not so correct items.

A few years back Revenue Canada (Our version of the IRS) asked e-Bay to turn over all personal information of Canadian sellers selling more than $20,000 a year. E-bay refused and Rev Can took them to court and Rev Can won. E-bay was forced by the courts to turn over all of the information requested. Rev Can went after and obtained back taxes (income & sales). By law Rev Can can go back 5 years.
I am sure that Uncle Sam and the IRS watched that play out and are following suit.
Not to stir the pot or upset people. I just want to state that there are a lot of things that I am grateful for. Such as law & order, access to medical care, infrastructure and ect. These are all things that we rely on everyday and have come to take for granted. Let us not forget that they are paid through our taxes.

just curious if anyone knows if cars sold on there are going to be included, looked but couldn't find a clear answer. It is not ebay sales, It is Paypal transactions, if you sell on ebay and get paid other than paypal it is not considered, on the other hand, if you use paypal to send and recieve cash to family members and it amounts to 200 transactions AND 20,000 you are reported. so to answer your question, you could sell $180,000 in cars, just don't recieve money thru paypal

Guys that are over that are there because they DON'T sell anyplace but ebay to unsuspecting and uneducated buyers. They could not survive selling to knowledge. Interesting viewpoint. So you think ANYONE who sells Petro on Ebay is trying to sell to unsuspecting and uneducated buyers??? I have sold hundreds of items to forum followers over the years through Ebay. I also see many many people list things on the forums and it does not sell and then say, "one last chance before it goes to Ebay" and it sells. When you put a search term in Ebay and request that Ebay notify you if that item comes up for sale you have a much better chance of finding that item. I don't think EVERYONE who sells Petro or anything else on Ebay is looking for uneducated buyers. They are just selling in the worlds largest marketplace. Like it or not, it's a fact. No one likes the selling fees, but if you have ever run any type of business there is overhead. Bottom line again.... NO I don't think Ebay policies will drive a significant amount of people to forums. A forum is a meeting or opportunity for an exchange of views. Education forum may be to contribute to education through research and debate. Also if EVERYONE on the forums were totally educated on Petroliana, why have "Petroliana Value Questions". We get people coming to our website almost EVERY single day asking about the value of Petroliana. Most are looking to sell items they came across and they have no interest in collecting. I normally suggest listing on Craig's List or Ebay if they have no idea what they want. Not to long ago a gentleman contacted me about a sign they had found in a building. I did not really know what the sign would bring. He listed it on Ebay and it surprised me and REALLY surprised him. He was kind enough to send me a finders fee of sorts for my advice. I don't think he would have sold it for the amount he got without Ebay. Also the person who purchased it had OVER 1,000 Ebay feedbacks. Hardly uneducated.

I'll comment on this one from the viewpoint of a retail businessman. If one does it right, charges and pays all taxes on a transaction while a competitor does not,the one following the rules(law)is at an immediate competitive disadvantage.
I go along with DB on "IF you sell something, pay tax" and with Dave Gill in gently reminding folks that the world we live in is paid for by those who pay appropriate taxes.I hpoe I understand what you guys were saying;that's just the way I read it.
To answer your question,no,I don't think much of anything is going to change,at least in the near future.Personally,I'm willing to pay my fair share.I just want everyone else to do the same.
