I'm in the process of restoring a Fry 17. I have the following sign that goes inside the glass cylinder on the Fry pump. The sign changes between "To Storage" and "To Car". I've seen pictures of other Fry pumps with these displayed inside the cylinder, but never is there enough detail to see how these are mounted and what they are mounted to. Assuming it mounted to the overflow pipe, but can't imagine how it was mounted.
Does anyone one have some info they could share on how these mounted inside the glass cylinder? Thx!

Glad you asked this because I need to know too. Mine are mounted on the regulator shaft and is a Fry 117. What hung off the hook?

Specia parts are needed to attach to brass regulator pipe. One is threaded onto pipe. Next piece is held onto first piece with two screws. I don't believe that these parts are reproduced yet. It's hard to find originals. Hope that this helps! Sam

BTW, I've messed with many Fry pumps over the years & never saw anything attached to the brass hooks. Don't have any idea what the hooks are for. Sam

Sam, thanks so much for the picture showing how these attached to the overflow pipe. My pump has the cap on the overflow pipe, but no pre-drilled holes to screw this extra attachment holding the signs. At least now I have an idea on how to jury-rig my sign and get it attached to the pipe.
If anyone out there has reproduced this attachment piece, let me know. I'd like to purchase one. Also looking for 1 more of these "to storage" signs. Greg

Greg, some of the pumps came from factory without the special sign assemblies on them. They were for farmers and personal use. Sign units were for stations selling to the public. I have an extra "To car - to storage" unit that looks about the same shape as the photos you posted above, except the brass hook is broken off. PM or email if interested. Sam

Wouldn't the hooks have a small spring or Cork attached inside box to activate the TO CAR/TO STORAGE signs when the overfill pipe was lowered or raised. When overfill pipe is in the down position, small hooks are resting on base & TO STORAGE is shown in window. When overfill is raised either 1/2gallon or Full, hooks are released & TO CAR is shown in window.

Dick, that was my assumption when I first got the sign and saw how it switched between "to car" and "to storage" when the hook was pushed back toward the bottom of sign.

Okay, maybe you guys are right, but since the signs are made of cork & float, wouldn't this do the same thing as a spring?

Also a thanks from me. Ive seen many Frys with this notice box but could not get a clear enough view. Would be a great reproduction project. Just like the swing joint gate valve handle we see them out there but no repros.
