Hello,

I've bought a Bennett 966 some months ago, nearly complete and in a good shape.

The front side is OK, the backside was missing the chrome trim at the sight glass, the main window and the add glass. The locks did miss the keys.I made an order at GPH for these parts, so the trim, the locks and the main window have already been replaced. The only ting I'm messing with is the add glass. The windowrubber has been delivered also by GPH, the main window was a success but the the add glass is a disaster; I can't fix it...!

The glass won't stay at it's proper place, it's just like the glass is curved to much?? I have double checked at my order that it is the right one for my 966 pump.

Meanwhile I've found a link to a online service note for this pump to change the glasses. The window rubber which is mentioned doesn't like to be the one I have bought.

Is it possible that both of the parts ( add glass and rubber ) are not correct at the GPH website? I've checked out at Vic's and there the correct rubber is available as at the service note.
I have ordered it and tried today to install but I'm still having problems causing the curved add glass.
Should I have to order the add glasses at Vic's? The dimensions at Vic's are not completely the same as at GPH...?

Anyone also had problems with these ad glasses?

Thanks !

Grtz.

Xavier

Xavier,
It looks like the ad glass has too much of a curve. I would think it has to have the same radius as the door. Maybe lay it on the door or the main window and see if it has the same curve.
Good luck,
Steve

these pumps are very difficult to get the glass just right. If your doors are not straight. The bow in the door has to be just right in order for the glass to fit right.
I had to take mine to a friend that does body work to get mine to fit right. And I thought it was the glass that did not fit right. Those doors are very tricky to get every thing to fit right.
From my experience.

You have the right rubber and ad glasses. You have to trim out the rear half of the rubber ad glass seal along the radius of the tight curve. That will take the pressure off of the front of the seal and it will seat much better.

I've been there mann, that model really sucks as far as putting that glass in. I've restored a few of those and its a fight to the finish every time. It does look like the glass has more of a curve than the curve of the door? Remember to use a plastic stick or glass cutter's hook tool with some soapy water in order to pull that lip over as you go. Just keep trying and you'll get it. I detect an Excedrin moment for sure! Good luck, smile Goober

Man I am there right now too....arrgghhh! Time to walk away and get it done another day. I find the larger rubber is better for the big glass..can it be used for the ad glass as well?

...Excedrin has caffeine...you might want to go with Tylenol...

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

Hi,

Thanks for the replies !

It seems it won't be easy to install... .

This is how it looks with the new ( and correct ) rubber:

I checked out the curving of the ad glass as demanded, the ad glass is indeed more curved than the main window. I've made a picture of it, but it isn't easy to see. Do both glasses need to have the same curving?
The result isn't satisfying me frown
Do you recommend me to buy the ad glasses from Vic's?

Thx.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply; so it seems it has to be the correct ( replacement ) glass. It's strange that the curve doesn't match the curving of the door. On my first pics I indeed use the small rubber from Gas Pump Heaven, with the new ( larger ) one from Vic's, it looks better. The front door has still the original glass, there is a crack in the glass, so I ordered at GPH two glasses, but I'm afraid to remove this one because it fits great, also with the alu strip on it. I think I will have a big chance to make it worse than it is right now.

Grtz.

Oh ! Great to hear that !

Many Belgian people moved to Canada in the 1920's and 30's. My mothers uncle Albert has also lived more than 30 years in Canada, his son Marcel, which has born there still lives there with his children and grandchildren in Winnipeg, Manitoba

I live in a small town called Ardooie, near by Roeselare, at 30 km from Bruges and the North Sea.

I bought both the ad glass and the main window at GPH , the curvature of the ad glass is much tighter than the one from the main window, the main window has the same curvature than the door, it looks to me the ad glass is to curve ,I'm wondering like Firebird if the ad glass from Vic fit better?
