You didn't mention the other dimensions.Around here,I noticed on a couple of old ones the islands were big enough so that a car would hit them instead of the pump.They were about 4" - 6" in height but extended about 2' or more in the direction a car would have been coming from.

I will note that the best example of that was on an old station with a dirt (mud) road ad in an an area prone to winter snow.As I remember,they had one long island for two pumps.Best of luck.
