I have an A38 that has 3 of the 4 pipes rusted thru at the base. My first idea is to cut them off and weld another pipe on the end. To attach them to the base I would weld a nut inside the pipe and bolt them in from the bottom of the base. Also, I would chamfer the pipe so it would self center in the base. (See pictures)
Just my first idea of a cost effective fix. Any other good ideas for this type of repair???? Thanks, Dennis

I don't know if I can make sense out of this for you or not. Pipe thread is tapered conduit is straight. They are both the same out side diameter. Use a conduit thread and use conduit nuts on both sides of the base and you can adjust the height to what you want. Check with a electrical shop. Hope this makes sense. Mitch

Dennis if you have a friend that has a medal lathe he can make the part out of round stock. Then weld it to the pipe. It my cost too much if you have a shop do it. Richard

cut the pipes back to where they are solid. Use all-thread the full length, correct height. Go through the cut off pipes with a flat washer and nut on top casting, flat washer with nut under pipe for support, nut and washer on each side of base to make it solid.

I like Richards idea since the hole is tapered. If you use straight pipe, I think you might have a chance of movement in it, whenever you move the pump around.
If you use a piece of solid shafting and do the taper on a lathe, it can be reduced on the back side to fit into the pipe and be welded. Makes for an original type repair!
