Bob... regarding which is earlier... thats a good questions. I have now seen 2 of these signs that exist in the brighter yellow color... so I assumed the tan looking one was just faded. But after looking thru some of the pictures I have, the lollipop version of this sign is also the lighter tan color. The tan version seems to match the different gold penn oil cans & grease cans that Sweney had. I haven't seen any other products from sweney with a yellow quite as vibrant as this sign. I would guess the tan to be earlier and the vibrant yellow most likely a change that was made slightly before they were branded out to D-X in the 50s.
