Just seen this post and I'm new to the neon signs. I recently acquired a 2'x8' Firestone neon sign that requires a new can and neon. The can I can build myself, but curious as to what measurement depth do you guys build the can to for a sign of this size?

I like my signs to look historically correct, so, build my cans to look just like a sign shop would have done back in the day.
Still looking for that Union 76 ball And I collect big old porcelain neon signs

I just sent your question to my friend at Northern Lights Neon and this was his reply. Usually 6", no less than 5"

got my sign back today... came out great, here's a picture:
(and just for future reference sake - I provided the neon shop with the sign already on a can. it was a local shop with a good reputation... all new standoffs, PK housings, tubing, transformers, etc. total was $725)
