We found a Quaker State tombstone with the original hanger yesterday. It was painted over years ago to be an "open for business" sign. Some of the paint has been damaged and it is not porcelain. Is it possible to remove the paint or will it just destroy it? I at least hoped to be able to save the writing enough to make paint templates from, if it has to be re-painted. Thanks for any help that can be provided.

I have cleaned off several painted over tin signs. Wet down the surface, and take a paint scrapper and GENTLY begin to remove the paint. This process is EXTREMELY time consuming, and you have to be careful, but in my case, it has worked.

if you work real fast, Easy Off oven cleaner will work.

Thanks for the help. I knew someone on here had this same problem. It only appears to have one coat of paint on it.
