Imo I would empty it so you don't get mor big dents in it. But you can use this link to help decide that. The dent is only visible from one angle put it next to another can or that side against the wall.

Its risky but sometimes a little tinkering can improve the can a bit, but it can make it worse as well. You might be able to stretch them out with leverage. Sell it to me and I'll take a shot at it and send pictures cool

I'd drain it, send it to Dan McGuffey to be repaired with a new lid. It will improve the value. Sometimes, he can even reuse the old lid if it comes off in good shape.

It is a great quart as is, however it is easy to make it worse if you haven't worked on many before. The earlier quarts are usually a thicker metal and if the paint isn't beaten up too much then it will be a good candidate for repairing. The photos below are a pair that I repaired and re-lidded (bottom lids only) for a customer recently. Value for empty versus full and new or original lid is a personal call. Some say it effects value, some say not. I don't charge any more or less for full or empty, new lid or old for the ones that I sell. Everyone has their own value system and you have make your own call. Let me know if you want to send it to me. Cheers, Don.
