I was travling through Rome New York today & ran across this:

I know nothing about it but thought it was increadably cool. The city must be doing it as Sears oil co. was founded in Rome.I gotta get back there in a couple weeks to see if they are finished with it yet.Hope they put some pumps out front!!!

I have been corresponding with Mr. Sears about this station for about a year now. He intends to restore it to what it looked like when it first opened (he has a picture).
His last request was about a grease pit that was originally outside the station. The only company I knew of that provided these was Sharpville of Sharpville, PA (the makers of the Sharmeter pump).

As always, I can't say just were the papers are (I have Mr. Sear's phone number and I think his email address) but I'll look for them and let you know.

I was glad to find someone from outside of Rome talking about this. Today was the opening day of the museum and yes they did install gas pumps.

Here is the article that was run in Utica OD's, newspaper about the station.

I have yet to see it done myself.

WOW.....

I thought you guys might like to see this. I got it in a collection a while back and just bought it because it was in such good shape. I figured it was Sears and Robuck of the retail fame. It must be a display can since it is empty and sealed on both ends and in near mint shape,

A couple of weeks ago a older freind and advanced collector stopped over to see my recently completeed garage and was checking out my cans and commented on this can saying this was not of the Sears and Robuck Retail Chain, but an independent oil company from around Rome NY. I just thought, that's neat to know. It's a pleasure to look at.

Then I saw this post. Just about 2 hours or so from where I live. So I guess I better go and check this place out. Looks great! Would love to see other items from this company.

I just realized something. There is some sort of sears company located on Black River Blvd N. in Rome. I have gone by it hundreds of times.

If you look at the google map you can see the building at the center bottom of the picture. Google gives it the name Sears Petroleum & Transport Corp. but there marker is off its mark.

I hope you find this to be interesting.

Greetings all.

I work for Sears Oil Co., Inc. and was involved heavily in the restoration of this station under the direction of H.P. Sears Jr. It is a 1929 vintage service station restored to its original condition including Pumps, Air Scales, Oil Change Pit and more. It was restored to museum quality and is open to the general public Monday thru Saturday 10-4. There is no admission fee, it is a free exhibit and well worth the trip. I would be happy to answer any questions or set straight any rumors. Sears Oil Co., Inc. is still very much in business but has shifted their efforts away from Oil and is now a leader in the Anti-Icing/Deicing business.

Inquires Welcome,

Dennis Violante
Director of Engineering
