Well, the cold weather has frozen my brain but fortunately it's finally thawing out. I can't believe that once again it's already the 21st!
Welcome to the TOKHEIM 36 showcase!! Obviously there are many different versions of this beautiful baby that came about in the mid 30's, mainly the most conversed model the 36B. I have a few personal favorites belonging to a couple of other manufactures but regarding this months talk, I'M IN LOVE! I have one of these, the computer version, which I purchased from a fellow oldgas team known as the McCauleys. I also have a 36B slated to restore in a couple of months for one of my good friends in the Texaco Marine White scheme.
There's not a lot that I can say regarding this petro icon other than trusting Dick Bennett to watch over your 36B top is like getting Colonel Sanders to watch over your chickens. As a matter of fact Dick recently threatened to give mine a haircut. As we all know that crime parallels the barbaric actions of what the early American indians would do their enemies, SCALP EM.
On the more serious side, please post your pictures, stories and lies regarding the Tokheim 36's. Restored, unrestored, deserted or whatever, WE WANT TO SEE THEM ALL!
Feel free to e-mail me anything you have to haninfrared@msn.com, I will graciously post them for you.
Thanks for participating, let's make this a good month for YOUR POTM!

Here is my 36b and the story. I was buying a sign off of this guy and he had all of these pumps that were really common with really big prices. I see this 36b covered with birdsh** in the corner and ask him how much for that one and he says $300. I just about broke my arm getting my $ out of my pocket. I wanted to do something different with mine so I did it with my favorite company Imperial Refineries.

QUESTION: most of the 36-Bs ive looked at have the light switch coming out at an angle. is this right? was this to clear the hose?

or did some pump jockey service attendant pull on the hose & bend the light switch?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

LETS HEAR SOME 36-B "ASSEMBLY" STORIES!!!
spend all that time block sanding & then rubbing the paint & the next thing you know you're kicking it & trying to gently fight it back together.

ABSOLUTE UGLIEST 36-B IVE EVER SEEN!!!
AND I OWN IT!!!!!!! L.O.L.
(& NO the blue is not that bright. SEE THE SIDES. i need a new pic)

i spent months on this pump. i carefully hammered & dollied & filed all the original spear trim out, i block sanded this thing for months, rounded up a NOS nozzle, NOS antiknock compounds contains lead signs, painted it with concept single stage, rubbed it out.
most everything is original including the glass in the top. - new faces & tokheim trim, a new tag & i rebuilt the original light switch but changed the knob.

i could picture this in my mind so this is how i painted it but when i assembled it i was just sick! i sat down & thought thats the ugliest thing ive ever done! LOL!
(ANY SUGGESTIONS ON COLOR CHANGE OR ADDED?)

my plans were to pull the back off one day & paint another opposite colors using the back of this for the front of the other.
sad to say it wont happen!
i can assemble a wayne 60 with my eyes shut. those are my babies & IM STICKING TO THEM!!!

All of the blue parts should polish and then put a mobil globe on it.

While visiting the in-laws for Thanksgiving, my Father-in-law gave me a G&B 96C, that he used in his business, without the doors. He said that the doors "were around here somewhere" As I wandered around the yard, looking for the ever elusive doors, I stumbled upon this 36B, that he didn't remember having, lying on it's side. It was missing only one door. As I ran back to get my Father-in-law, and the forklift, I found the other door to the pump.

Somehow, I thought, that it was strange that it had no top. A phone call from Dick Bennett confirmed that he knew where the sawmill, that this pump came from, was. A trip through the area probably caused a "Ping" on his 36B "Top-dar" Now I don't want to imply that an afternoon visit to the yard scored him another top....Well... maybe...LOL. This will be finished in Mobil colors, to match the Pegasus, that was given to me by Mother-in-law, on the same visit. It, like the G&B, will be completly disassembled, stripped, straightned, primed, painted, and assembled with new bolts.

I'd bet that TOKHEIM SOLD AS MANY glass tops as they did ADV. Tops. MOST but not all 36B pumps that are MISSING the top, had GLASS tops.

T2T
The light switch on most TOKHEIM's is behind the sheetmetal. You push a pencil or pocket screwdriver thru the hole to turn on/off.
