I am one of the guys in the last colum (80plus ) would like to hear from the other three and if they were collecting in the 70s when you cuold get things for free or little of nothing and didnt worry about repops Well--if I make it to Jan.30th. I will be 86. Bought my first Shell globe for a twenty dollar bill in 1972.Yes some things were free when being phased out.

Okay, I turn 80 this week. I started collecting in 1970 via my neighbor farmer throwing away a very nice May West 5 gallon pump with perfect blue tinted cylinder. Painted it up and then displayed it at a local tractor/engine show. That's all that it took to get into the hobby without the aid of internet, books, and specialty petroleum shows. Have always done it as a hobby and never a business. Have met some of the nicest people on this site & other shows. Facebook to me is a big disappointment but I keep up with it. I gave up restoring pumps about 4 years ago until a good friend talked me into doing two pumps for him this winter! Memories and busted knuckles came back to me in a hurry!
