I want to hang these outside on my deck. Put candles in them or maybe run lighting into them. I want to preserve the patina but not have it get any worse.
What are your thoughts on giving them a bath. Clean them up. And then spray them with a clear flat or clear satin. Of course, not the glass.
I'm not concerned about value! I'll be gone next time they sell.

I’d say that’s the right way to go.

Steve, not sure if you intend to keep them outside all year long but if it’s just spring summer fall I would seal them to preserve them. Obviously I would do a test before doing anything on those lamps. Way too cool to screw up. They may be lacquer, so be careful.

Yes Les, they would just hang all year long on deck/pergola.
What's the worry with lacquer?

A lot of times it will have a reaction to oil base paints and some rattle can paints. It will kringle, and bubble.
