Hey all,

Can I post on here to ask your advice on some ebay auctions?

Im new to buying porcelain signs and pump plates for my garage.

Im afraid to bid on some items as they could be reproductions.

E.g. this one, is it legit? https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/264784427361

Thanks,

Bill

You came to the right place to ask that question before you wasted money on it. This is a great site for advise. Fair warning to you... most pump plates on eBay are fake, probably 95% of them. There are some legitimate good people on there, but you have to be very careful.

Thanks Steve.

At first when I hopped in eBay a week ago it seemed like there was some great stuff on the auction.

After about a week of bidding and watching I started to notice some trends and really got me thinking this stuff is not all authentic.

I ended up buying https://www.ebay.ca/itm/INDIAN-MOTORCYCLE-DALIOS-SALES-PORCELAIN-METAL-DEALER-SIGN-FORT-WORTH-TEXAS-GAS/174333361469?_trksid=p2485497.m4902.l9144 already, fake?

I've bid on all these, thankfully i'm only winning 1 of them, I presume they are all fake after your comment Steve?

Stay away from all of those signs. Don’t buy any of them.

As far as the Indian sign you bought is concerned... return it with a complaint to eBay. He describes it as a “dealer sign”. That exact particular sign he sold you (That’s in your hands) was never used at a dealer. It is a fake/fantasy piece. That might help eBay side with you. The part you may have not noticed is in smaller print at the bottom of his description and reads “limited production”, which translates to ‘not real’

If you want some real signs, buy them from people on this site or go to a gas and oil show, when things get back to some kind of normal.
