I figured I would bring this timely thread up again and add the few new Christmas items I added to my collection over the last year and see if anyone else dug up any items they might want to add.
The card is from 1940. I researched the gentleman's names at the top of the card and learned they opened the Socony-Vacuum office in Des Moines, IA in June of 1937.
The 2 Mobil ornaments come from the Beaumont Refinery in Texas and are dated 1998 and 1999. It's neat to see the use of the magnolia flowers on the '99 in homage to the Magnolia Petroleum Co.
That's all I added this year...anyone else?

I thought I would bring this thread back and update my oil company holiday additions from the last year. Not too many, but I think they're fun additions to a collection.
First is a Marathon card that doesn't get any more retro than this...the car, the font, etc.
The other is a Hi-Speed card from 1941. I googled the intersection of Outer Drive and Burt in Detroit and the station is still there surprisingly, living on as a repair shop. This card was a surprise in a lot of old Christmas cards I bought at a local antique shop. I didn't know it was in there until I was sorting them.

Last are the additions I made to my Mobil Xmas collection.....
This first is a photo card of Dahlstrom's Mobil Service at 1618 St. John's Ave. in Vancouver, WA. I googled the area and it appears this station is long gone. It's a neat old General station though with the large wood Pegasus in the clouds sign on the canopy.
Next item is what I would assume is a popcorn or smalls bag with Santa and the Mobil flat shield logo at the bottom, probably late 50's.
Last for this year is the 1936 Magnolia calendar, front and back shown. I really like the earlier calendars, the lithography is always so well done.
Have a Merry Christmas everyone, and please add any holiday finds you have made to the thread if you would like!

As usual, I was looking around tonight and discovered one I forgot. I bought this monster ball ornament early this year. I put it next to a quart can for size comparison. From the same era as the smaller ones I posted earlier in this thread, 1950's. I would guess they made these large ones to hang in station window displays, as they are big. I've only seen a couple of these over the years, so I was glad to acquire one.

Well Darin, being from southeast Michigan the curiosity got the best of me so I had to check out the Hi Speed station on Google Maps.

According to the street, it looks like they still like their cars! LOL.

Very cool station. There are a lot of them left in Detroit.

Well, as far as I can tell I only added one Christmas related item to my collection this year. It's a nice addition though as it is from my region, a 1937 White Star Mobilgas calendar. As I said before, the artwork on these old calendars sure is nice, they don't do lithography like this much anymore!
