Hello to the group! I’m new to the Gas Pump Community.
I have been considering restoring a gas pump for some time now, but have finally decided to get serious with it. I have restored several cars and old generators/motors etc.
I am wanting to rebuild a 30s-40s pump to functioning condition. This Tokheim 39 is for sale close to me, and it has the internals and pump. From the more experienced members, does this look like a decent project for a full restoration. I wasn’t sure if some brands/models are harder or more expensive.
Thanks for the help.
Ben

Hi Ben. Welcome.
There is no photo attached.
The Tokheim 39 was onced described as the 68 Chevy Malibu of gas pumps. There are lots of them around and not rare.

Welcome to Oldgas. Good luck with your project!

Good pump to restore. Parts are available. Looks like it is in decent shape as far as rust and dents.

The pictured pump is $600. Does that seem like a fair price to pay for it? While I am wanting to restore my the pump for myself and am not too concerned with resale value, I don’t want to blatantly overpay for something right off the bat.
Thanks

Looks like a $900 pump to me! A little rubbing compound on the blue areas would do wonders for it. I sure wouldn't bother with a restore! Heres a picture of mine and I really like it unrestored!
