Hello friends! I am an artist trying to find out more about the pumps used at this Mobile filling station in Linden, Texas. I am about to do a drawing of this station and I want to render the pumps as accurately as possible. I thought that I could go to Google images and find the exact pump without difficulty, but finding this image took quite a bit of searching!! The photo of the station dates it as mid 30's. I found a pump similar to this one on Ebay and it says it's a Martin Schwartz #70. But that pump does not have the rectangular light bar across the top. The image I'm showing came from an auction site and the auction took place in Corpus Christi last year. it did not give any more info on this pump. Anyway..I'm also helping the Linden Heritage Foundation by doing research on this particular pump. So any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated! Chad

Yes, they’re all Martin & Schwartz 70s. There’s no light bar across the top...it’s just the ad glasses.

The rectangular light is referred to as “ad glass” which just means it was glass that had the gas advertisement on it and would light up at night.

From what I can tell is that some M&S 70’s came with ad glass and some did not.

The 3 pumps at your station all had the ad glass though.

Here are some pictures of my M&S 70. Hopefully they will help with your drawing. If you need any close up shots let me know.

The four versions of the 70 are shown on pages 240 & 250 of my new Gas Pump Bible book. For more information see: www.gaspumpbible.com

I also have a parts list for the 70 available, email me if interested.
