It's raining like heck today stuck in the shop and I figured I'd burn some time posting my progress on an A38 I've been working on. This one has been really slow and still has a ways to go but I figured I's share whats done.
It all started with these lens I've had a long time and figured it was time to use them. My tape measure is pretty long. They are not in minty condition so I figured rather then a restoration I would do the as found route to make the lens look correct. I had this pump as a parts pump and had lead a pretty rough life. Sides were bad on the bottom and one door was missing about 6"s on the bottom. I looked at it and said "what the heck, let's give it a go". I talked to my fabricator guy and he wanted no part of it. So I made a mold for the bottoms of the side and glassed them. Same with the door. Usual stuff, lots of sanding, filling, fitting.
I also had a station lighter on one of my other pumps that I decided I would use on this because the off white was close. So I cleaned it up and it's close but still have a little blending to make it right, not much though.
Cleaned and sealed the frame, pump and got the electrical rewired. With that completed I started to fit the sheet metal. Going for the look I want I left some of the dents and sealed the flake. I'm at a stop on the pump right now because I'm missing a part (can't find the damn thing). Called Tom and it's on it's way. Thanks Tom.
Getting a pump plate is above my pay grade so I made a water slide decal which I will use. I have the artwork completed and wanted to see if the size looked correct so I photoshopped it in. I think it will work.
Well, that's about it for now and I will post the pump when it's done. Thanks for looking and I would appreciate any info on the lens because so far I can't find anything on them.

Thank you guys. I just ordered the water side paper which is the last piece of the puzzle. Hope to have this fella done in the coming weeks. It will be interesting to see if I can make the decals look correct. Next challenge.
Yes Steve, lots of messing around but it's nice to see this guy come back to life.

Small update, finally got the tower color more in line with the pump color. The pic on the left is the tower just cleaned up, it was too white. I thought this would be a no brainer but it took more time then I initially thought, as usual. Now it's take it a part for final assembly. Got the missing part thanks to Tom. I hope the last post will be the finished pump. Fingers crossed.

More progress, got the water slide decal paper and made the transfer. This stuff works really well, I was surprised. I have to wait a day then go back and bugger them up a little bit. I also have some NOS white hoses and decided for now to use one on the 38.

I really like how this pump is coming along. Too bad that new hose did not have brass ends. If it did you could dip them in brass ager to make it look old. I did this to a tan cloth hose. I also got the cloth dirty and ground the dirt in with some window cleaner on my hands, then lightly sanded it with 80 grit sand paper to make it a little fuzzy for the used look.

Matt, I was thinking I might try painting them a brass color then aging the paint. I agree the shiny chrome does not work with the pump but we will try to fix that. I did a pump about 15 years ago that is in my collection and use one of these hoses and over the years it has yellowed which I like. But on this one I don't want to wait 15 years. Attached is a pic of the hose.

The hose on the Pure pump would look better on the A-38, you should consider swapping them.
