Just wanted to tell everyone I saw in Columbus, it was nice seeing everyone and meeting new folks in the trade, other than the rain I hope everyone had a good time. actually after the heat on thursday and friday, it felt good. And for Phil, I agree with your wife, next time don't forget the beer, pop and ice you left at home.

Just back from Columbus. My thoughts. Lot's of time to visit with old and new friends..because there were so few vendors and buyers as well. Last year was my first visit to Columbus and I said I wouldn't go back but here I was agsin. This particular show is just too long. I feel it should start on Friday, early auction Friday afternoon and room to room Friday night. From what the "old timers" say the show is half what it used to be. I was very disappointed as were most of the vendors I spoke with. I am interested in what others think

I have been to this show for 5 out of the last 6 years. Last year I was unable to attend. The vendor count was WAY less than the last time I was at the show. That said, I bought more stuff this year than ever before and the vendors I spoke with had great shows even with the two auctions.

Great to chat with friends that I don't get to see face to face very often. I agree with Ray that the show is too long. The 10 hour drive for me is killer as well. If I go next year I will fly.

The vendor count was low. The economy kept the tire kickers at home. I had good sales because the people who showed up came to buy and had less to choose from even with auctions book ending the show. Had a great time.

I've been to the last six shows, and agree with the lower vendor comments above. Also attended both auctions and didn't get a thing at either one. However, I did get a globe and a single lens from different vendors on Friday.....items I've spent almost ten years looking for. So things were bass ackwords for me.....I rarely find things at shows while auctions have been my best source. Go figure!!

I agree, turnout was down but all went well. Yes Mick, I remembered all the drinks, cooler, etc about 30 miles down the freeway. Enjoyed seeing all and had a great time, thanks uncle Bob for the beer and room. Maybe next year, my sorry cuz will drag his way north.

Phil

Thanks, Phil

Made the show on Friday and I agree the vendors and foot traffic was down but guys were saying they had a good show. Miles Little was there and stayed busy all day. Talked to Cindy Sim, couldn't find Jack, and picked up my Air Meter book. We can expect less foot traffic until the economy turns around but if the stuff is priced right collectors will do well with each other. I always enjoy the show and enjoyed meeting new friends and seeing old friends.
My plans are already made for next year.

It was great to see everyone even if traffic was down. I took several pictures Thur morning before my batteries went dead.

Dave from Texas had the Mermaid sign. I think he wanted $1400 for it. I can not think of his last name. Call Rick Pease or Howard Clayburn they would have it. Dan

I too had a very good show (even with a 15 hour drive each way @ $4.00+ gas!) I agree with most that attendance was low but those that were there were buying. A 1 day/night show would probably be in order. I'm sure the problems in the midwest kept some people home with more pressing issues. I do plan on attending next year...By the way the Waverly sign is mine but can be yours for $350.00....Nice meeting everyone at the show...Shaunhiggins@comcast.net

Better late than never- I had a decent show- have had better- Vendor count and traffic were down- serious collectors were there- missing were mom and pop with couple kids in tow- they never bought much but always thought some would develope into new collectors- Couple rain storms did hurt the outside guys- Most all the inside vendors stuck it out till about noon on sat- didnt sell much but we were there- as always had a few people come in about 1030 or 11 and want to know where everyone was-Jerry had one guy who was very upset-I always tell them most people sold about everything they brought so went home- suggest they come on fri next year- truck show and Toy auction didnt do anything for most of the vendors who stuck it out- I think room to room was pretty good -but being by myself I didnt get to too many other rooms-
My only complaint was that numerous times when I did get a chance to hit a room or get out and look around the seller was on his cell phone or too busy talking about things totally unassociated with selling or the show and I had to leave- One told me fri that he was setup only in room and was very interested in selling all his cans etc- I stopped fri nite- hung around about 15 min-couldnt get a word in edgewize between the talking and the TV - gave up and left--See you there next year- thanks Don

I'm finally getting around to posting a few photos. Hopefully I won't put any shots that are similar to what's already posted. Before the show I was wondering how the economy would affect the items and folks that showed up. I thought maybe more premo pieces would come out of collections, but I didn't see that happening. In my opinion folks seemed peculiar about making purchases, but that could be the result of most of the folks there were dealers and not folks off the street. This is the first time I arrived early and left late to be able to attend both auctions and the show. That made for a long week and fairly expensive. I wish there was some way to condence it for us working folk. Enough talk, here's some photos.

I've not been to Columbus since 2006. I appreciate the pictures that are posted above. The picture of the pumps still loaded on the trailer reminds me of a guy who bought a nice 5 gal Mae West from me in 2001 at Columbus. Does this ring any bells, anybody? I was always sorry I sold that pump, and I wonder what became of it. It was a nice 5-gal G/M, hail screen, mostly complete and solid, unrestored, in green paint. I remember the buyer was surprised I had loaded it horizontally on my short-bed truck.

Man, looks like a fun time....too bad i didnt know about you guys until a couple of days ago

in truth, i would likely attend hoping to score some older highway signs...do many of them show up at these meets, or is it mostly petrol signs?
