Hello All,
I try to very rarely use the value forum, but am hoping others could help me with a value on this can. I really like it, but am not knowledgeable on Standard items and I feel it could be a bit overpriced. (But I'm told I'm a cheapskate pretty often too! smile )The dealer is asking $50 for it. I can fix the dent in the front to the left and otherwise it's in good solid shape. Is this can from the 40's? When did Standard of Indiana quit using the torch logo on this can?
Thanks for any help,
Darin

Hi, Darin. Perhaps the 5-pound size works against this can's value in some collectors' eyes. Personally, I don't think the can is over-priced at the $50 (but, if so, certainly not by much). It's also good that you think you can remove the dents. If the can is at an antique mall or store, you can always make an offer. As you probably know, many dealers selling a little more expensive item will usually give a 10% discount, if asked. That would bring the can down to $45 for you. Good luck! John

Hey Darin, I'm not a Standard Oil collector but that can has the look to me. At present days prices go I don't think it's out of line. What John said I totally agree with. Good luuck and I hope you score.

I think you should buy it! It certainly does have "The Look"
If it was local to me, I would buy it.

Oh, and John, the dealer had a 15% off sale at the booth, so I got it for a bit less than the standard 10%. smile
