Now I know that sometimes in old B & W photos the color contrasts will get reversed. But based on the rest of the photo, that doesn't seem to be the case here IMO.

So did they make this sign with an orange background and blue letters?
I can't say that I've ever seen one.
It would be so cool to have both displayed side by side.

My thought is it's how the black and white plate negative was developed. I believe the pumps were red which is pretty close to the orange of the letters and the blue was washed out to the sun which is hitting it.
