I removed it from a abandoned garage and house ready to be demolished in 1980. The back is black and all four eyelets are of the split type. heavy shelving. If it's a repop it's a good one. And why has another not turned up ? If they went to this much trouble you would think they would make more than one.

Easy-- advertising.--If its real the back really makes one wonder. Don't know a thing about signal but companies had signs for tanker trucks, and some sales reps light duty rides looked like poster children when they came calling. I don't think it would be early on as the corners are rounded? The veterans will have to way in on this notion.
If you really want to beat your head against the wall you could track the ownership of home you might get lucky and find someone worked for signal.

Thanks for the input Loyd. What's your concern about the back? All the repops I've seen the backs are white.I thought a truck door sign also but all the pictures I've seen they're round. The red top light is early. They changed to all black later.

If the first color fired on was black it makes sense then others laid on top just can't tell by pics. Pierce truck signs was white on back because that was base color with others added on top, just don't deal with a vast amount of companies. Doesn't have to be truck door sign maybe could be attached to rear of tanker or parade promotion sign would explain why no one has seen before.
Good Luck,so far you have a one off!
