Any Gulf experts know what sizes the Gulf Dealer signs were made in (the ones that actually say "dealer" on them). I know there is a 66" version. I am wondering if there is a 42" or 48" version. The only 42" and 48" I've seen were fake ones from India. If anyone knows if they made a real 42 or 48" please let me know.

I am dealing with a guy who has one. I want to make sure it is real. Or maybe it's just a 66". It's high on a wall and he just guessed at the diameter.

Thank you all,
Steve

THE PICTURE BELOW IS JUST FOR REFERENCE (FROM EBAY)< IT IS NOT THE SIGN IN QUESTION.

...the only authentic, original Gulf Dealer sign in the style posted above - that I am aware of - is 66". A later sign was made in a 72" size, but does not have cross-hatching on the letters...

There is a 36" Gulf Fuel Oil Dealer sign. Might want to be sure its not that one before passing on it

Thanks for the input guys. I am going to try and see it in person in the next week or so, which will definitely help.

...might be a good idea to just look closely at the sign...should be easy enough at arm's length to tell if it's old or not...and just because it hasn't been seen, doesn't mean it doesn't exist...

I would echo what Mark said about this. I do remember several of the 42" (light blue shade) signs still being in use when the logo changed in 1963. Older signs were replaced gradually, as late as 1966 for several. I have never seen any striped dropshade Gulf Dealer sign in any size other than 66", but there are several versions with and without borders, outlined dropshade, etc. That said, remember at PCM we have enough discoveries every month to fill up a column called "Discoveries." We have no idea what is out there, waiting to be found.
