I have really been wanting to try a rustoration on my National A-38 with original Phillips 66 ad glass. Someone along the line had sandblasted parts of the pump and attempted to start body work and then gave up. Then I came across the pump and thought it needed some help. I tried some crackle stuff this time also. I put on the base coat of paint by brushing it on, then after that dried I put on the crackle stuff and let it sit for 45 minutes, then I brushed on the topcoat and let it all dry. After that I then sanded and wirebrushed in areas and also used a scraper and a torch to mess with it a little to give it more of a distressed look. I am super happy with how it turned out. What does everyone else think? Enjoy!

That crackle looks pretty good!! Was it a small bottle? How many did you use on the whole pump? Chris

You can buy the stuff at Lowes or Home Depot. The thicker the coat, the larger the cracks. The top coat can only be a water base paint. Go over that with steel wool and a dark paste wax or even a oil stain. Play with it and have fun. Dave

Thank you everyone for the kind comments! A lot of people have been asking me how I did it and what I used. Well here is what I used. I get everything through where I work at Heartland Building Center, and I get great discounts! We are a Doit Best store.
