I added a Tokheim 876 to my collection and wanted to know if anyone could identify the date of manufacture. It has an unusual face plate that has Tokheim embossed on it and the stepped side rails like a Tokheim 36B. I believe most of these pumps used a porcelain plate like the 39 model.

The G.O.C. Tokheim 876 was manufactured from 05/26/38 to 09/30/49 (serial numbers 464,260 to 491,959). However, according to the blue book, there is a gap for the first 9 months in 1947 and the last three months of 1948 (which reads "no movement"). So I don't know if they were manufactured during those gaps in time, or if no orders were placed by G.O.C., therefore no need to manufacture (or if they were ordering a different model pump).

Your serial number falls into the latter years and was manufactured between 04/01/49 and 06/30/49 (serial numbers 490,531 through 491,080). The date of manufacture on your tag is 6-49.

As for the face plate, I can't answer that sorry. Maybe they were just replaced from damage, or is the veeder root different on some models, which would require a different face plate (similar to the two types of faceplates on Tokheim 300's)??

Hope this helps,
Steve

Thanks for taking the time to respond Steve. I saw the 6-49 but thought that would be too easy. Guess I was wrong. Repairman interchanged parts all the time and I'm guessing the face plates may have come off an earlier model. Never saw an embossed Tokheim face plate before.

This is my 876 twin and it has the same face plates as yours. I looked in Jacks book and it shows a porcelain plate on the double but on the single it appears to be as is on our pumps. So now I'm curious as to which one is correct? I have done nothing to this pump as it is the way I got it.

Nice pump. The face plates on my pump appear to be original as well, just wish they were in as good a shape as yours. First time I've seen a GOC pump re-branded but I'm sure it happened all the time.

I was wondering if the brass vertical trim is correct on mine. Does your's have holes on the sides to mount that kind of trim?

...the trim on my 876 twin is stainless/chrome...I've not seen any GOC spec pumps with brass like that...guessing it was missing, and added by the same person who restored it as Texaco? confused

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

Mark (gulfiend) is correct about the trim. I have a double Gilbarco and the center trim is stainless. Most of the GOC pumps also have stainless trim on the corners.
