I recently bought a Whiting Bros. sign. It appears to be original. It is a little bigger that 25" diameter. Wondering if this was a standard size of sign and where it might have been used. There isn't really any fading to the paint which makes me believe it was inside or wasn't up very long. Any thoughts? I don't really collect gas signs but do collect anything Whiting Bros. Thanks.
Here is the link to the eBay listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BIG-WHITING-BROS-25-1-2-039-039-RARE-AUTOMOBILES-Enamel-SIGN-BIG-HEAVY-HARD-FIND-GAS-/172614691805?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&nma=true&si=YefXjUFefs9Vd2CeJ%252BnuxFpA3Gg%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

It's repro or fantasy sign. Always ask before you buy. Especially something that's on ebay.

Where do the sellers get these? Even if it is fake I would still be interested in it but at a lower cost. I've done many google searches over the years and never found anything like this sign? So did someone go to the trouble to make this one fake sign... or are there hundreds sitting somewhere where I can buy them for cheap?

All of his signs appear to be fake. Best post, questions before bidding.

Yes it is a fake, not a reproduction, of a never produced sign. However, that said, if you like Whiting Bros the price was so little I'd suggest you keep it. Normally we try to "nail" these fake sign people but since you are not a "sign collector" that is my advice but in the future always look at the seller other items to determine if what they are selling are fake

I do plan on keeping it and displaying it. The quality of the sign is really good and looks great displayed along some of the other Whiting Bros items I have. "Whiting Bros" has been one of my saved searches on eBay for the past 4 years and none of these have come up in that time. We will see if they start popping up everywhere. And if I ever part with it I will make sure to sell it as a "fantasy sign". Thanks for the info everyone!
