What is the best way to shorting a hose with original one? Thanks

Buy a shorter hose. No easy way to shorten a hose unless you have the tools. If there is a hydraulic, air hose supply shop locally, they might be able to do the deal? Otherwise, my first statement causes less pain. Paul www.severngaspumps.com

Depending on the dia. of the hose u could buy a replacement end and and cut your hose and replace the end.

Scott-You probably know all this- the ends are crimped on with a hydraulic machine. either 1)buy a shorter one -they are pretty inexpensive. 2)shorten it and try to talk some one into crimping a new fitting on. 3)shorten it and try to dig the end of the hose out and reattach it some how to your end. 4)cut a section out of the middle and shove a tube in like a splice. 5) they make a high pressure splicing kit that involves a series of fittings that ends up about 6 inches long but will cost about as much as as buying a new one. I think that sums up your options.

That hose actually belongs inside the pump and comes out on the side of the retractor plate below the nozzle, so for that pump I think it is the correct hose length.

The retractor on these holds a cable, the hose stays out. Maybe just put a 3in pipe in hose outlet... cut hose push it on pipe & use a band-it clamp to attach hose to short piece of pipe? Chris

As said the hose is inside on a counter weight that pulls it back into and down when not in use. There is no cord on this pump.

Thanks for the help. the cord is there but not hooked up. I guess what I wanted was the hose not to drag on the ground, but close to the ground. I see that hooking the cable up would pull it back. But would it pull it up enough? Thanks Again

I've never seen a Wayne 80 that the hose retracts inside? I've only seen them with retractor cables? Chris

Scott, contact your local Tractor Repair Facility or if you have an Industrial Hyd. Hose Facility and ask them... I had a long hose shortened by such a Facility here in my Community and the cost was less than $50....

According to my M&S/Wayne literature for the 80, they did not make a 80 with a hose on a reel.

Jack so the cable is not right? It looks original to me.

On any gas pump the cable is used to pull back the hose so it was not laying on the ground, your "outside" hose as M&S/Wayne called them is correct.

I never got around to it, but years ago I purchased the wire, brass couplers and the part that clamps on the hose, with the idea of offering them for sale. Still out in the garage in a drawer.

I'm not sure what hoses you guys are always working with but most of the ones I have had have a screw on fitting on the hose ends, not a swaged on type fitting. I can't tell by your picture but it looks like the fitting that is on the pump end of the hose is just a regular screw on type. All you have to do is cut the hose off at the fitting and put the fitting in a vise and screw the nut back off of the female threaded fitting that screws into the pump. Take cutters or a box knife and cut off the hose that was left inside the fitting and slid on the barb. Cut your hose off to the length you want and slide the collar over the hose, slide the hose over the barb, and tighten the nut back up. Here is a picture of an end I have that came off of a pump/hose. I'm sure there are some hoses that have the machine crimped fittings, but if you have those and just need one like this, I can send you one, I have several off of pumps I've built. I always save them for just such an occasion.....GB

Hose shortened. Now if I can get it to lay flat lol.

Try tightening or loosening the hose to get it to lay flat. If that does not work, reverse the hose. An old hose develops a memory shape. It gets very stiff once fuel is removed and gets dried out.
