Hello everyone,

i have a porcelain sign that I am trying to identify. It has kind of a cream-colored background and across the bottom it says:
"STOPS CARBON KNOCKS". Above that is a square area of which the four corners are colored black. In the center of that area is a red diamond with "NEVR NOX" in black and below it a horizontal red arrow with points on each end which says "GASOLENE" in the creambackground color. Below that, in smaller, black letters is: "NON-POISONOUS".
Can anyone tell me about what company this was from or anything else about it?

NevrNox was a brand of premium gas from Mid-Continent Oil Diamond DX. That was around late 1920s to mid 30s. They shortened the name to DX and merged with Sun Ray, then with Sun Oil which became Sunoco.
See the Oldgas FAQ page for an image of a similar sign:

Thanks for the info. I have tried to find out about it several times over the years but ,I guess, I haven't asked the right question in the right place until today. What a neat web site.

One side of the sign has some 'spatters' of white paint on it.... just little drops and a small smear. Any suggestions about whether or not I might get these off without damaging it further?

Thanks again. You made my day!

On porcelain signs, I use paint stripper with 4 or 5 ott steel wool, then give the whole sign a good coat of wax. Dick
