So I'm sure some of you have seen this listing and possibly even drooled as I did. This being the first time in my 5 years in the hobby that I have seen one of these porcelain light up Caduceus come up for sale. But even despite it's rarity, there is still a limit to it's value. And I don't see this set being worth anywhere near 20K.
I was seeing this set like this.
Caduceus = Maybe $3500 in the right auction (he says glass is chipped).
Sunoco = $1200 (I actually have this set in same condition and I paid $1200)
Lub and wash = $800 ($400 each. I don't see these bringing all that much money)
Total $5500 (So maybe you even say $6000 total since it's all together)
So the guy tells me I'm not even close. I jokingly wrote back saying "Fools and their money, but I'm burdened with reality" : ) It doesn't surprise me that someone out there would pay more than that. Even though I think these are good numbers.
I'm just curious what Oldgas thinks a reasonable number is on this set?

Steve I think you still might be a little high (on the price that is), I see it all the time where items will sell at these crazy prices that some will ask, most are going to people with the money but no knowledge at all of what they are buying.

I have to agree with you Steve, but that's just me & my money.I can't say what another will value this at.
And as the seller might argue,"Where's there another?"

That's just it..as more and more people get into the hobby with deep pockets the sky is the limit. If they will drop 250K on a car and there are 20 of those in their collection...Do you think they mind paying whatever if they see something they like to decorate the building those are housed in? It's a rich man's hobby now and the rest of us have to just find the crumbs along the way!

At the gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table.

Just call me Lazarus. grin

Unfortunate but valid points all.
I sure would love that Ceduseus in my collection.

I think your value estimate is a good one but from what I seen this stuff go for recently I know longer have a clue. It is very cool especially being complete but 20K I just don't see it.
