Thanks cggs!! If you know who that is please have them contact me.

Hey Ezrider, Thanks! I couldn't let it go.
That rare of a can in such good condition and FULL to boot! That chance just doesn't happen often.
Might just be the new "Holy Grail" of my collection anyway..

...can they do it without draining the oil, cutting off the old lid, and relidding the can?

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

Thanks for the info guys..
Do you really think it's necessary for this can? It's in amazing condition overall. I can't see that small dent hurting the value much at all?

If it were my can, I wouldn't do it. It will require the lid or bottom to be removed. The oil drained and the dent removed and then the oil put back in and the lid replaced.

Thanks for the input Randy. Was the other can you seen sold on ebay or somewhere else? What was the selling price/ condition?

Dan can certainly get the dent out it you want to drain and relid; he does amazing work. I brought a full can like this with a similar dent to a local body shop that restores classic cars. i'm friendly with the owner and showed him the can. He warmed up some type of putty that was placed on the edge of a two inch "rod" and pushed the warm putty in the center of the dent. He let it cool and then attached the rod to a specialized car tool for pulling out dents. Squeezing a trigger it applied pressure and slowly pulled out the dent. The he peeled away the putty. I apologize for doing a lousy job of explaining this specialized tool, but the bottom line was he got 95% of the dent out and it really improved the can. Point is there always is a way!

Great alternative EZ!! I'm in the auto industry and I'm familiar with the process. You did a good job of explaining it. I have some hail dent guys that work miracles should I feel the need to make this already special can perfect.
Thanks for the great conversation fellas!

I wouldnt touch it either. I would drain from the bottom if i owned it. Does not hurt value and when it hits the floor ever it will not be smashed.
