Hello from Seattle. I am wanting to buy my husband his first gas pump. I put a deposit on a Tokheim 39 tall dated 9/1947 it has been in doors all of its life. It is red straight and in good condition with all the factory parts, so on. Paint it chipped. The owner said he would put any front brand on it, Any globe suggest matching. And face plate. We are still negotiating price was at $1800 what is a fair price and would this be a smart buy for a first time Gas Pump to start a collection? Need lots of advice. I do not have a picture to post. All Welcome here to learn! Thank you.

It is difficult to address a specific pump in terms of it being a good buy or not with the limited information provided.

Generally speaking; in my opinion, a tall Tokheim 39 is nice pump and will compliment any collection. It is a common pump with parts being readily available. I would brand the pump in a brand that appeals to you; be it through a family connection or what fits best into your existing collection. Branding does not affect value. Globe and pump plates should match.

In my opinion, $1800.00 in a retail environment is not a bad price for a tall Tokheim pump with a decent quality finish. Without pictures, I can't specifically address the pump you are considering.

Good luck.

Dave, Thank you so very much for taking the time to respond. I am thinking from all I have seen I can get a nice restored Gas Pump for $2000 or under? I want one that says wayne on it like the Tokheim or a Wayne, any suggestions? I am in The Seattle area ( Snohomish ) and think that it would be great to buy as a Man Cave Gift. I bought him a Gas Pump replica Globe for a bday gift..Came across the Pump, said wayne on it ( Was his dads name whom recently passed ) and I knew it was time to get him a pump..Thank you so very much for help and advice !!!!
