Question, did many different brands use sign poles alike or were they all different? I have seen several brands mounted on a pole very similar to this one. Can anyone shed some light on what I have here or what it was before the hack and weld job?

This is what it looked like before it was butchered. Too bad.

Do you happen to have a picture of one without the sign in it for cross-section detail? Is it rolled angle iron or is it a ring with one circle cut and welded in it. I can fabricate and repair it but want to make sure I'm putting it back like original. I will have to do an analysis and see if it is cost-effective first though. I may be able to get the details from the little portion that is left in the bottom. Kirk T.

Don't know if these will help but to recreate the original ring would be a challenge to say the least. It was extruded steel with a radius on the vertical piece that the sign is bolted to and is about 3.5" high inside the outer ring. The width of the top pole base that is left is the width of the ring that was welded to it. The ring thickness is about 1/4" that was rolled then welded to the top pole base if that makes any sense.
I think it would be pretty pricey to reproduce something close to an original but everyone likes a challenge, I guess. Hope this helps, Les.

Thank you for the pictures and posts, they do help. I cut the garbage off of my sign pole today. There was actually a short section of the original ring there so I can see how it was made. I have a plan for a reconstruction job. Stay tuned for updates in the form of progress pictures. One more rather dumb question, is a 6 foot sign exactly 6 foot in diameter? I kind a need to know before I build my ring. I would hate to make my ring and then find a sign it not fit in it .

I'm in the market for a 6' Texaco sign ring with conduit and light bracket. I've gotten close to acquiring one a couple of times but still looking.
