Hi everyone, Im still new here but i could use some help. I have found the remnants of a FRy 117 but it is missing at least 2 major parts. First the base is missing. I see that a reproduction is available but would prefer an original. But the worst thing that is missing is the cast iron front skin. I don't really know what this part is actually called, but on diagrams i have been able to see it seems to be part #24. The only way i can describe this part is that it attaches to the matching rear half cast iron part to create the main body of the pump from the base to the cylinder area. I hope that this description makes sense. The story on this pump is that i can probably buy it very reasonably but if i cannot find the cast iron front then i won't even consider it. I am also sure that there are other smaller things missing. For instance parts that are normally in the base, handle, lower pump, a replacement glass etc. But i feel I need to locate at least the front part first. So now the question. Does any body have, or know where I might locate this front casting. I am a buyer keeper kind of guy as opposed to a buyer flipper, and I would really like to restore and display this pump. So if ANYONE can help me i would REALLY appreciate it. I do plan on attending the show in Peotone Illinois on the 16th of October. So I could meet with anyone that day to hopefully purchase what they have or even show them photos of the pump since i cannot post pictures yet. Since i am still new i don't know if private messages can be sent on this site but on the Buick site i belong to that is possible. I would also really like to post my phone number here, but that may not be wise. So I don't know how to put any of my contact information except to ask to somehow be contacted through this site. Thanks in advance. As I said any information would be REALLY appreciated. Bill.

Sounds like there is a lot of key pieces missing, and hard ones to find on top of it. Could you take some pics of what is there? That would be very helpful. Les

I can sell you a parts diagram showing all the parts to the 117. The only major cast iron parts are the pump body halves and the casting on which the cylinder rests. All the other parts are stampings if I remember correctly. Dave Jones

Dave Jones Dave, I saw the diagram you have for sale and I'm sure if i can locate a cast front body half, I will absolutely need one of those diagrams. Having that would be imperative to my plan to restore the pump. Thanks. Bill.

I believe you are correct...It is a stamping(pressed steel)...thick also. I have never seen a cast iron panel, although they may have been found on the earlier 17s with the cast iron base ? Dave

Would the front have been stamped?? I don't know. Not really having seen one before. From the reasearch I have been able to do the pumps nickname was a "Mae West". And all the photos I have seen both restored and unrestored suggests that the front half and the back half are cast. In my area unfortunately,I have not been able to locate a restored one to study. So i really hope i will be able to go to the show in Peotone next month. I will also have photos with me to show everybody. Thanks Bill

Don't know if this will help Bill, my Fry has a cast base but the body is stamped steel, heavy metal. Inspection plate is also cast on the base. Les

Yes, that is a big help! Now I can go and compare bolt pattern, and bottom of half configuration as they connect to the base. Thank you very much! Bill.

AndI also hope it is really pressed steel. If it is cast "good luck" I'm finding out, would seem to be the order of the day. I do have some metallurgical experience. But, I always leave room for doubt. I would really like to rescue this pump from where it is lying down next to a barn, and to get it inside with me is desirable. That way at least it is not rusting away. But to be able to bring it back to what it is supposed to be, and display it, is more desirable. I really like what I believe is " functional artwork". Which is what I think cars are. If you get a painting and hang it on your wall, that's nice I guess. But I get to drive mine around! Well, to much ranting on. I really do appreciate the comments and help. Thanks. Bill.

Well I hope this works. I am trying to post photos of this pump for the first time here. I still think this is a cast skin. The hoses are from some hydraulic rams next to it. Thanks. Bill. 135759 IMG_0060.JPG. 135760 IMG_0061.JPG. 135761 IMG_0068.JPG

I have never seen that pump and it does have a cast side piece. You may have an early Fry that did not have the base. I have no knowledge of these pumps. Their structure did not convert to farm use.Dave
