I have often wondered if there is a place on the site where Jim can keep this list, "near the top", so it can be found readily and added to as time goes on? As we all know, the list will only grow and change as the crooks close one account and "reopen" under a different name on Ebay.

I will periodically continue to update this list for Old Gas members. Just reply on this thread with other scammers to add to this list. [I did not compile this list, it is from your contributions. I just try to keep it organized]
If you reply with other scammers names, be absolutely sure the sign(s) they are selling are fake (i.e. make sure you know what your talking about). Maybe have confirmation from a few experts to be sure. I would hate to have an honest seller on this list.

Just looked around on EBay at the items rustyrelicsart is trying to pass off. The description on every item is almost identical. "Heavy metal porcelain sign... Thick shelving..." Blah blah blah... You would think someone would catch on to that

I try and buy from known auction houses so I don't have to second guess if something is real. The fake porcelain signs on eBay are fractions of the price a real one would go I don't see why everyone is crying. I was watching barrett auctions this weekend signs are going 5-30k same repops on eBay go 250-1000.

This is how I feel about it . Anything out there that is meant to deceive is dishonest ,its robbing people ,I am referring to unmarked undated purposely aged signs, globes anything . It hurts all the real and honest collectors in this great hobby as well as the general public just trying to start a collection .Sure it has been going on forever but it still is criminal now and always has been.

I totally agree if your intentionally aging items or saying their real 100 percent. I'm noticing a lot of these sellers on eBay have crazy wording that legally would keep them safe where they are saying basically they don't know if a sign is real or not. I had a buddy a while ago lose an eBay case because in the wording it said something like that and then since they lost they where not able to leave bad feedback. He lost on eBay than on paypal because of the same small print.

Even if it isn't chipped up ...Putting anything but reproduction in description is fraud IMO ...If you don't know don't sell.

David, the problem is those "same re-pops on ebay" that go for $250-1000 you are talking about are usually $25 signs. Crying?? I actually don't even buy any signs on Ebay, I just keep the list current for other Old Gas members who do. I think it is smart of you to buy at well known auction houses. However, some fakes slip into auctions as well. How would you feel if you went to an auction and paid $2500 for a sign you've always wanted and when you got home, three of your buddies told you it's a fake or repop made to look old? Same thing we are trying to prevent on ebay. Many, if not most of us, on this web-site want original signs for our collections. And second there is no problem buying reproduction signs, if they are listed as such. I buy them all the time for my gas pump restorations. It is however, a scam when people buy the same $25 dollar signs and beat them up and then sell them for "a fraction of the cost" at $250. The problem is people are being deceived (scammed). Think of it like this, I have a rock that is painted gold, but I will sell it to you for just $300 an ounce. Is that a good deal for a fraction of the cost? I see you are new here, and I hope I'm not coming off as harsh (DB could explain it better... lol), but we are all just trying to help each other on this website.

All of this is unfortunate to say the lease. It seems evil-bay is the lead offender, one would think they would try to weed out the impostures but they won't because it is all about the money more then anything. I personally have not bought signs on that site for years.
I'm shocked that someone would be good with paying four times the real cost for this stuff that is make believe. I noticed that the up coming Morphy's auction listed reproductions and the estimate cost ranges are crazy. The next thing will be auctions dedicated to fake signs. Sad but what are we to do? Thank goodness we have oldgas!

I see your point now more clear. I guess the only way is to like you said to buy from morphys. I saw them sell some reproduction last week for almost 1k with premium i had never seen that before. What does everyone think of millers auction that sold alot of signs recently at auction on ebay are they legit. Also can i get a list of legit auctions houses othwr than morphys and barretts thanks

I see signpro74 from Canada is already on the list, had a email battle with him today... He is very slick says CODED 6-11-63 instead of DATED on a Texaco Marine sign so he can get around well you know... To bad eBay has the privacy thing and blocks out the bidders, years ago they didn't do that. If they didn't block/privacy we could warn the bidders and it would put the sellers out of business, or cut down on their profit at least. Please, report his auctions to eBay for trademark infringement if you have time.

Yeah I noticed today they have a Paper bag drinking sign. They sold one awhile back for $144. It's a 1987 Ande Rooney and they rusted off the date. Sad.

While I do not have access to my lubesters to measure them, 16" seems wide even for a 60 gallon one. So while it is a cool decorator piece what is the point? Its being sold as having application for a lubester. Yes that was a facetious question. John

I am donna I am realtively new here not new to ebay but new here. This list of people selling fakes is excellent and educational.
I have a question, I am assuming some of you sell on ebay as well as buy. Is there a similar list of buyers to beware of ?
If you ever selling stereo equipment I have a list of people who tried to scam us with chargebacks, wrongful returns and swapping junk for what was really sent. I just had a guy open a case with ebay, he abused the system so bad he was ineligible for buyer protection and when I declined his return he opened a case with paypal. He managed to hold $760 of mine in limbo for almost 60 days while they both investigated fortunately I won both.
So that being said if there is a list of shady buyers I would love to know where to see it.
just wondering if there is something similar here.

I will periodically continue to update this list for Old Gas members. Just reply on this thread with other scammers to add to this list. [I did not compile this list, it is from your contributions. I just try to keep it organized]
If you reply with other scammers names, be absolutely sure the sign(s) they are selling are fake (i.e. make sure you know what your talking about). Maybe have confirmation from a few experts to be sure. I would hate to have an honest seller on this list.

Looks to me like you can add erlydz to the list. Selling multiples of same sign and most just don't look right. I could be mistaken but I wouldn't take the chance with this seller.

Folks, I understand some of you are very new to the Petro Hobby... But, Oldgas is a Petro Site...
So, how about sticking to reporting Sellers of Fake Petro items; only?...
The list is very long and it is hard enough for most to keep track of those selling just fake Petro items. Now, with the "Tidal Wave" of fake Chinese Sellers that have enveloped Ebay in the last Month; it will be next to impossible for some "New Petro Hobbyists" to know where to turn for help....

This person needs to be reported to eBay! Look at this! In image 1 you will see 2above-mediocre2 selling a fake Mountain Dew sign. The next image is the bid history of this item. Now look at the last image. Queen_pin1 is selling a similar fake Mountain Dew sign. You notice Queen_pin1 has 105 feedbacks, well if you go to the bid history of 2above-mediocre2's bid history, you sill see someone with 105 feedbacks! You will also see someone with 251 feedbacks, that user ID is 1above_mediocre1. So why is it that 1above_mediocre1 is bidding on 2above-mediocre2's item? And why is it that queen_pin1 has the same sign but is bidding on 2above-mediocre2's item?? AND DID I MENTION THEY HAVE THE SAME BACKGROUND!! I called ebay and got the Trust & Safety Department and they reported it, but I don't think 1 person calling is enough. I don't think we can get this user on the fact they are fake signs, but we can for bid manipulation! If anyone wants to try to get rid of this user here is the number for eBay: 1-866-540-3229. Provide them with these 2 item numbers: 153339159223 & 312426399543. These items end in 12 hours from now!

Badboyz1 is the shirtless nipple ring guys that pose next to every sign or can in speedos and whatnot. They mix fakes with real signs here and there to confuse buyers and get a good chunk of change for them

I am interested in buying some old gas signs. I found this forum maybe someone can help. There is a seller redhatrelics on ebay that is selling a lot of signs. Can add ketchme62 to the list as well, is selling a fake sign that I asked about earlier in the online auctions forum, seems to have good 99% feedback, but also sells a lot of stuff that says "vintage" etc in the ads, not sure how many things he may have sold that may have been genuine, but he did call the esso sign rare, and very vague usually one sentence descriptions, so I would definitely be wary of that seller.
