I don't know if any of the rest of you do this, but my gas and oil display is a constantly changing thing and probably always will be.
Back when I first started collecting, I grabbed anything and everything with no thought as to direction. After a couple years and some viewing of more seasoned collections, I picked a brand to concentrate on, with others that I liked a lot, thrown in for variety.
I have been to many collections where I was obligated to look thru a "stack" of signs in order to view them all? It really didn't seem like a collection or a display when piled in a stack, and I resolved to never become a hoarder in my quest for a pleasing display.
I am somewhat limited on room with my small 30 by 40 building, but it has high sidewalls that give substantial room for signage! Whenever I buy something new that I don't have room for, I give it one year to be placed on the walls, or its going to get reentered into the market! Sometimes I run over this deadline, but the result is always the same. I either take something old down and replace it, or I sell off the newly acquired piece that I thought would fit in, but never has.
That brings me to this last weekend. I had purchased a few signs and globes with a purpose in mind, but hadn't received all of them yet. I had sold off my Phillips collection to make the needed room, but it was still in place awaiting pickup from the new owner. Peotone had brought about the connections for delivery of many of these new signs and globes and I came home with a fair sized task ahead of me!
First on the list was to take down all of the sold items and then contemplate placement of the new display. I was able to remove all of the Phillips items on Saturday and I spent the next day pondering and measuring!
I got some help from the Warden on sunday and we were able to get the long Veltex strip sign in place and that would allow me to be able to take my time with the rest of the smaller signs and place them where they would fit the best. I also wanted the big 42 inch Inter State Oils sign on the same wall, and I needed her help with it too, since it was so high on the wall. We were able to get it in place on sunday evening, and I could have all of Monday to place the rest of them.
Everything went together amazingly well, and a lot of the signs were able to be paired up with another of the same length. It went together fairly fast and I was done with the project by quitting time yesterday! I'm already looking at a few on this wall that I really don't care for, all that much and will probably replace in the near future. LOL But hey--that gives me incentive to find that "just right" sign for another day!
I'm done for now, but as I sit in the shop and contemplate the display, it seems that small ideas start to pop up and it puts me on the hunt again! Besides, there's a tiny bit of room above the Veltex! But that's another day!

Here I thought it was just me! I spent a few hours on Saturday doing the same thing after I made room for a new sign addition and ended up with the puzzle, moving a half dozen signs around. LOL
Great Job Kevin!

Thanks
Mike

I also bought this Inter State globe from the last Kyle Moore auction and didn't have it ready to put up when I was doing the wall. I have since cleaned it up and it is sitting up there next to the sign.
This company really intrigues me, as it is obvious they were an affiliate of Cities Service!
