This was a tough one...Carl Mantegna, a fixture in the hobby and all the gas and oil shows for decades, passed away yesterday. He will be deeply missed by who ever met him. I knew Carl for nearly 40 years. His smile was contagious and always had a dozen jokes to share at Iowa Gas and Columbus when I saw him. He was so much fun to just be around...We'll miss you buddy. RIP Carl...

Carl was everyone's friend and always had a joke to share. The hobby lost a great supporter and we lost a special friend. Hopefully we will see his grandson at the shows and share our stories with him! Kathleen & Jerry Keyser

Carl was a fixture at automotive along with oil and gas events all over the Midwest. At least for the 30 years that we have been involved.
My father has a passion for oil company history and I would guess Carl supplied him with 100's of magazine ads from the teens, twenties and thirties.
He will be missed.

Cindy and I met Carl and his son Craig around 1990 at CTO. We were both vendors, and every year we would all go to Max & Erma's in Columbus for dinner. CTO, Iowa Gas, Auburn, Indianapolis, Carlisle, Hershey, Carlisle Mid-West, It's a Gas, I was doing 20 shows per year and they were at most of them. Carl, I will miss you and your jokes.

Carl was the first gas/oil vendor I ever dealt with. It was at the IOLA, Wisconsin show and swap meet in the late 1970's. Carl and I were negotiating on a very nice 30" Phillips 66 porcelain shield, with the metal hanging frame. I believe the final price was $275. Over the years, Carl never forgot my face, and still greeted me with a smile and a "hi, Wisconsin" as recently as this past year's Iowa Gas.
As has already been said by others here, Carl was simply one super, high quality individual. And, I would say the same for his son, who vended with Carl for so many years. My sympathy to the Mantegna family. John
