Ok I need help figuring out what the heck this thing is. The guy I bought it from says it's a filter housing for some sort of gas pump? It measures 9 inches long just under 4 inches diameter on the open side, is thick, looks handblown, has threads at the top, and is embossed with:

GILMER PATENT
PAT. JUNE 21 1910

Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Ok after some more research, I think it is a collection vessel for some type of early sap extraction device.
