So a friend was over last night and we were sipping some of KY's Finest and got to talking about Marine signs. Trying to determine where this Marine sign or a Texaco Marine Lub sign would bring more money in an auction now days. Don't own an image of a Texaco sign so can't post that but here is the Marine Sign

I like the blue in the Marine Gasoline but like the graphics on the Texaco. The Texaco would be cool if it had blue instead of the green. Someone should do a photo shop on it so we could see how it would look.

In 2007 I attended the Matthews auction that was held just over the Miss. river from St.Louis in Collinsville, Ill. This is the year the Harbor sign sold for over $60,000.

I don't know how this compares to the values of the signs stated above (I am not a sign person), but I do know if you love signs this is the auction you should have attended.

I didn't take as many pictures as I should have, but I believe these pictures should wet your whistle.

Question, if in 2007 the Harbor sign sold for $60,000 what now is the highest price ever paid for a sign at a auction. Who knows what a sign sold for in a private sale?

The difference between the two signs if you discount branding really lays in personal perspective. A clean layout, with single subject versus a busy scene with several small subjects.

A sport boating enthusiast would discount the Texaco in favor of the speedboat displayed so prominently.

Jack, to the best of my knowledge it's the HUSKY SERVICE sign that sold at Spring Peotone a few weeks ago.

The hammer was $82,000 plus the 15% buyers premium (phone bid).

SOLD $94,300

...what about that lighted Goodyear sign that just brought in excess of $100K?

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

Mark, the Goodyear sold after Jack's question. So, the updated answer is now the "WEAKLEY EQUIPMENT CO. LAWN EQUIPMENT" neon that sold as Lot #S250 on Saturday, 03/28/15 in The Walker Sign Collection by Mecum Auction, Inc.

125k hammer plus 15% buyers premium. $143,750.00
