Hi Old Gas Guys,

Just finished restoring an ECO air stand, Model 242, it’s for sale. We blasted this down to metal, bodyworked it, castings smoothed, and painted with automotive base / clear. Lots of clear, we went crazy polishing this to a really nice shine. Painted pinstripes also buried. Really nice show chrome on here too. Internals all rebuilt. We air pressure tested this to ensure it works and have it ready for hook-up (there’s a couple brass fittings under the black cover at the bottom). We built a platform for the air stand, thought it be easier to display that way, nice and stable no need to bolt it down unless you want to. Please see the ebay listing for better pictures and more detail. Old gas price is $3500.

Ebay listing is 301550899112

- Paul

Hi Wes, most of the ECO air stands had meters. This one is more rare I believe, it has a globe instead of a meter.

Where did you get that globe (?) I have never seen one like that, and none of my large file of Islander literature shows anything like that?

Also for information purposes, this was one of the low cost Islanders, in that it did not have a meter, just a air supply, and in this case a water supply. You needed a air gauge every time you put air in a tire.

Thanks for all the nice comments, much appreciated! Robert, I like your line of thinking!

Jack, I think most of the air stations came with meters, this one has the globe option instead, in my searching the net I only found a few with globes so I think its rarer. I kind of like it with the globe personally, the globe said "AIR" "WATER" but I took artistic license making it a little cooler looking. I added pin stripes and that bottom plate too.

I love the way it looks and congratulate you on a fantastic looking finished product.
But how would you know how much pressure was in something?
Did they originally offer this without a meter head/gauge to monitor the air psi?

Rick, yeah this one never had a meter and it came that way originally. It was either have the large globe or the meter, not both. This was a complete unit when we started working on it. Its like those gas stations where you need the hand held gauge to know the pressure, at least thats my understanding of it.

Yes thats right Paul. I may recommend-to any one that doesnt own one already- the very thorough book"Air Meters" that Jack Sim put together. It has all the info in there. Browsing through the book, I saw that ECO put out a earlier model very similar to this one with a few differences. One being the art work on the ID "globe". It was more similar to what Paul came up with. By the way Paul- Great job, and very nice looking.

My apologies Paul, you're right.I see now I misread Jacks reply.
I see he was talking about the glass globe(,which you've addressed),and not the air meter head.

That early ECO Islander is the 120 Series. I have only seen pictures of two of them that have ever been found. Similar but the housing is smaller.

The globe on those are not glass. It has a metal band globe attachment with porcelain coated inserts....

Sold... Thanks for everyone's interest. Unfortunately we don't have any other ECO meters for restoration right now. I may eventually be selling the globe you see on this ECO stand.

On this air station, we ended up doing a custom job with it for old gas member Al. He had a very rare cash box top for the ECO Islander, we ended up restoring that cash box, and putting it on top instead of the globe. Cant be many of these cash boxes out there!

Thanks Al for your purchase, much appreciated!

We still have the globe if anyone wants it, its under ebay # 301585366532. Old gas price is $450.
